Weekly Message for 4-12-20
Posted by Andrew Livengood on 4/12/2020
Hello Pine Hollow Middle School community. This is your principal, Andrew Livengood, with the weekly message for April 12.
I can’t believe it has now been four weeks we have been out of school! I miss seeing our students’ and teachers’ smiling faces every day!! Stay strong Pilots. We can do this!!!
- Digital Learning: We have now transitioned to digital learning for all students. If you or your student have any questions regarding the structure or format for this new way of teaching/learning, please email the teacher and they will be glad to assist. Please note, each teacher has daily office hours in order to help students and answer questions. If you are unsure exactly how your student’s teachers are teaching remotely, please start with his/her webpage. If you are unable to get in touch with a specific teacher, feel free to email me and I can help connect you with the teacher.
- Access to Remote Learing: A number of Chromebooks were distributed to families who needed one on Monday, April 6. We will be doing a second distribution later this week or the beginning of next week. If you have not already done so, please contact a teacher ASAP if your student needs a device and/or an internet hotspot. WCPSS has ordered over 10,000 hotspots and we are expecting them to arrive this week. Once I have more information regarding how these will be distributed to families, we will communicate directly with you.
- Coronavirus Information: Visit wcpss.net/coronavirus for the latest information from WCPSS. Another helpful link regarding WCPSS Remote Learning Resources is available at: https://sites.google.com/wcpss.net/instructional-continuity-wcpss/home.
- Elective Registration: We have added information to our school website to help students register from home for next year’s classes. Please try your best to enter your student’s elective choices for next year by April 24. After the 24th, counselors will reach out to students individually. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s counselor.
- Field Trip Refunds:
- Teachers who had a field trip cancelled emailed a Google Form to parents. Most parents have filled that out, but we are still missing a few. If you have not filled out a Google Form regarding a cancelled field trip and how/if you wish to be refunded, please do so ASAP.
- We just cut refund checks for the cancelled band trip to Williamsburg. Parents should get their check in the mail later this week or next.
- For the 8th grade DC field trip, we anticipate being able to refund approximately 80% of what was paid. We are still waiting on the refund from Holbrook, but this was the latest information we received from them. As soon as we receive that refund, we will begin cutting checks to reimburse parents.
- We are still trying to get a response from the bus company regarding the Richmond, VA 7th grade trip. The company is closed until May and not responding to phone calls or email; therefore, we are unable to issue any refunds right now for that trip. I will share more information as soon as we hear from the bus company.
- National Junior Honor Society: All 7th grade students may apply for membership in the Pine Hollow Middle School Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society who have a cumulative GPA of a 3.8 on a scale of 4.0 and have attended PHMS for one full semester. The due date for application packets will be after we return to school. Do not worry about that right now! Contact Mrs. Price if you have questions: kprice4@wcpss.net. The induction ceremony is currently scheduled for June 2 at 6PM in the auditorium.
- Yearbooks: We currently have 96 yearbooks still available for purchase. The price is $50 and can be ordered online http://www.strawbridge.net/Our school code is YB112059.
