Principal's Weekly Message

West Lake Wildcat Families~

We need your help! Our incredible CTE (Career and Technical Education) Teachers are planning a Career Fair for our students. Your participation would be greatly appreciated as your are the role models and experts to help guide our students as they continue on their journey to adulthood. Please take a moment to fill out this form as we will need volunteers to help make our WLMS Career Fair a success! Since we have not had a fair at WLMS in recent years, we are excited about this opportunity for our students!

For the 2nd semester, the grade level Assistant Principals will be reviewing grades weekly. Students who are earning a 69 or lower in a class will be prioritized for that class during at least one SMART Block session in the following week. This support is to ensure students are learning and understanding the standards and are successful in all of their classes. We want to ensure work habits are not interfering with academics and learning. You can check your student’s grades at any time in PowerSchool.

Track 4 students will be taking their mid-year benchmark assessments in LA and Math on Tuesday, February 4th and Wednesday, February 5th. Students in all grade levels will receive additional support with any standards they have not yet mastered from the first semester. This will be done during SMART Block or small group instruction during their classes.

The magnet and year-round calendar choice is currently open until the end of January 2020.

Be sure to share with your neighbors and friends that WLMS is also offering one more school tour this week on the following days/times:

January 29 at 9:30

We appreciate the efforts of our parents and families in supporting our teachers by donating snacks and water bottles for their weekly meeting. The sign-up for the Snack Shack is below. We are hoping for new families to send donations too!

Here is the link to the sign up genius for the snack shack.

Any student in the 7th or 8th grade that is currently not in NJHS can apply now. The deadline for accepting applications is February 7th, 2020. The application is located on the WLMS website under the Activities subheading. You can find out more about the organization by reviewing the WLMS NJHS By-Laws which are located on that page as well.

Our girls and boys basketball teams are on the court this week. They play Monday at home against Apex Friendship. Come cheer and support our student athletes!  Winter Sports Schedules can be found here. Spring Sports Tryouts will begin on February 12, 2020.

We are looking forward to a great week at WLMS where we continue to focus on growth and achievement for every student!
