Pre-K-12 Students to Continue in Remote Instruction Until Mid-February

The Board of Education voted today for all students in grades Pre-K-12 to remain in remote instruction through mid-February. Board members made this decision after hearing employees and school administrators share their concerns over the increasing percentage of positive cases, the level of community spread in our county and staffing concerns. Board members will review state and local guidance, state and local health data and district operation details before deciding next steps in February. Athletic skills development, conditioning and intramural options at the middle school level will not resume until in-person instruction resumes. Learn more.

Cohorts and Teachers

If families have made changes to in person learning or virtual academy it will mean that we need to adjust teachers to accommodate those changes. We will not be making any changes until it is determined that we are in person. Once we are sure of the date we will then share any changes that have been made. It is very likely that you will have a different teacher if you changed from in person to VA or vice versa.

We are also being asked to make sure every in person student is assigned a cohort. We are making adjustments to chorts and will send them out once we finish. We do not know if they will be using Plan B, we were just asked to make sure we have each student assigned to a cohort.

Reminder: Food Distribution Canceled on Jan. 18

Due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, we will be canceling Big Bus Food Truck deliveries and curbside meal pickup. Our Child Nutrition Services team will be doubling up meals on Friday’s curbside meals and Big Bus Food Truck deliveries. View locations at wcpss.net/food.

WCPSS Chromebook Update

If you received a WCPSS chromebook at the end of last year or during device distribution in the fall and the device breaks, please put in a HelpDesk Ticket using the Guide to Technology website: LINK HERE .

You may also call 919-694-8100 to start a ticket for a broken chromebook. By either filling out the form linked above or calling the number, WCPSS will work to fix or replace the broken device.

The county has still not provided a timeline for new chromebooks to be distributed to students who did not receive devices in fall. If you circumstances have changed and you are in need of a WCPSS chromebook, please provide your name to Mrs. Nelson so that we can begin to compile a list. Again, we have no information about if there will be any more devices distributed, but we have been told to collect any names.

Istation

Please allow your child to complete the Istation assessment if they have not done so already. Teachers will let students know if they still need to complete the assessment.

Dreambox Challenge

WCPSS has provided guidelines that teachers allow students to work on Dreambox daily to complete 1-2 lessons of work 20 minutes per day. Briarcliff students in K-5 should be using Dreambox everyday as part of their daily math instruction both in person and durning remote learning.

To encourage students we have created the Winter Dreambox Challenge. If as a school we complete 15,000 lessons from January 7th-February 7th the student with the most lessons completed at each grade level will get to PIE ADMINISTRATION in the FACE!!! The class with the most lessons completed at each grade level will get a Social Hour with their classmates.

Have your student check out this video of Mrs. Nelson.
