Cougar Blast - Week of 5.10.21

Dear Cougar Family,

A huge THANK YOU to all families and our AMS PTA for making our teachers feel so special each day last week. We are so appreciative of your love and support.

Please partner with us in reminding them that school is still in session until June 10th.. The expectations that have been set from the beginning are still in full effect. We are not relaxing any of our safety protocols and procedures, nor any of the expectations about behavior or dress code. I know that with your support, our students will fly through these next few weeks with PRIDE!

Please take note of the following announcements for this week.

Critical Guidance: Face Coverings Guidelines

  • Based on new guidance issued Wednesday by the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS), face coverings are now optional while outdoors. Face coverings are still required for everyone ages 5 and older while indoors and on school transportation.
  • This means students and staff will not be required to wear face coverings outdoors for recess, classes held outdoors, outdoor PE classes, outdoor eating, and similar small gatherings.
  • Students and staff may choose to wear a face covering outdoors in these situations if they want, but a school or staff member may not require it.
  • NCDHHS still recommends that anyone who is not vaccinated continue to wear a face covering when they are closer than six feet to another person, even when outdoors. However, this is a NCDHHS recommendation and not a requirement.

** It is critical that we understand that the situations in which masks may be removed outside, at school, are very specific - outdoor PE classes, classes held outdoors, or outdoor eating. These are the only times that this would be applicable when students are in school. Everyone is expected to wear a mask as soon as they step on campus, walking from building to building, walking to buses or carpool and whenever indoors or on the bus.

  • Please help your children understand the importance of maintaining safety precautions as we go through these next few weeks. We have done an excellent job of keeping each other safe thus far and I expect that we will continue to do so if we all work together.

Save the Date

  • June 7, 2021 will be our 8th Grade Celebration. Details will be shared soon. Please note that families may be part of the celebration, but there will not be an in person ceremony.

Items to be returned

  • As we near the end of the year, teachers will be communicating with students about when to return which materials need to be returned to the school and when.
  • Students May Keep Chromebooks But Must Return Hotspots by End of School Year
    • Any student who has a WCPSS-issued hotspot must return it to their school by the end of the school year.
    • Students who have a WCPSS-issued Chromebook will keep their Chromebook through the transition to the 2021-22 school year.
    • Students who are graduating or leaving WCPSS are required to return all devices to their school on or before their last day.  Read more.
