Cougar Blast - Week of 4.26.21

Dear Cougar Family,

Please take note of the following announcements for this week.

Calendar Change

  • The Remote Learning Day previously planned for May 5 for traditional calendar students has been moved to May 13. May 13 had previously been designated as a teacher workday, but that workday was moved to accommodate the district’s shift to Plan A. The remote learning day was moved to allow schools and families to retain activities originally scheduled for May 13. View calendar.

Virtual Academy Registration Window for 2021-2022

  • The registration window for the WCPSS Virtual Academy opened Thursday, April 22 at 12:01 a.m. and will close Sunday, May 2 at 5 p.m.
  • Information regarding the Virtual Academy, along with a link to the registration form and pre-K virtual option and registration information, can be found at the link above.
  • The site also includes information regarding the level of commitment we seek, student and family responsibilities, course offerings and FAQs.
  • Anyone wishing to register outside this window will not be guaranteed a seat in the Virtual Academy, due to staffing and scheduling issues.

  • We cannot stress the importance of keeping your child home if they are sick. Please keep in mind the following guidance when deciding whether or not to send your child to school. Please know that a sick child at school impacts everyone around them.
  • Students should not be in school if they are diagnosed with COVID-19, exposed to someone with COVID-19, instructed to quarantine, or if they are sick or experiencing any of these symptoms:
    • 100.4° fever or higher
    • Sore throat
    • New cough
    • New shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
    • New loss of taste or smell
    • Diarrhea or vomiting
    • New severe headache
  • Once your child is well and returns to school, please be sure to send in a note that explains the absence. The note will go to our data manager inorder to properly code the absence.

  • Thank you for taking the time to help us make our carpool run smoothly. We are definitely seeing improvement every single day.
  • One thing that would be most helpful is if everyone would display their number clearly on their dashboard or hang it from the mirror. Things go much more quickly when we can see the number and post it for our students than having to stop at each car to ask for the number..

Athletics Update

  • All Athletes Interested in joining the Season 3 Cheer, Girl's Basketball or Boy's Basketball teams should join us for an information meeting on Wednesday 4/28 @ 10:30 am.  Use Google Meet Code AMSATHLETICS.  Season 3 will begin on May 3rd.
  • Interested in Athletes should review the updated Athletics Information Sheet and begin working on all necessary paperwork now.  Please pay close attention to the section titled "What do I need to do before my 1st practice?" and complete every step.

PTA Updates

  • Please take a moment to read through the current PTA NEwsletter: Cougar Connection. It contains important information about the current and next school year.

Be Prepared

  • Finish Strong by committing to the following each and everyday for the rest of the year:
    • Stay focused
    • Be prepared
    • Complete work on time
    • Exhibit PRIDE expectations
    • Be a little better today than you were yesterday
    • All students should be familiar with teacher expectations and with their schedules
  • Daily Supplies for PLAN A students every day
    • Face Masks  - every student needs to be wearing a face mask when on campus. Please be sure to provide your child with masks before they leave your home
    • WCPSS device or personal  and its charger to school
    • Earbuds/headphones
    • Personal water bottle - labelled with name
    • ELA workbook and novel
    • Math workbook
    • Paper and pencil
  • Attendance
    • It is crucial for this last quarter that all students make every effort to attend and engage in their classes every day, whether virtual or in person.
    • Students attending virtual classes will be required to be signed into their LIVE Google Meet sessions and participate as required to be considered PRESENT for the day.
    • Please note that for Plan A students, there is no remote learning option if they are absent from school. Students will follow the normal, pre-pandemic procedures of contacting their teachers and making up work if they are absent.
    • If an absence is COVID-related, we will work with each family on an individual basis.
