DRMS' Principal Message

Greetings Dolphin Families,

Black History Month: February is Black History Month where we celebrate the contributions that African-Americans have made to American history in their struggles for freedom and equality and deepens our understanding of our Nation's history. Students will engage in activities throughout the month.

National School Counselor Week: This week, 02/02/25 - 2/07/25 is National School Counselor Week.  We are very thankful for our amazing School Counselors, Mrs. Olivia Reuss (6th grade), Mrs. Ada Deen (7th grade), and Mrs. Rotisha Hall (8th grade).  By serving as leaders and advocates collaborating with other stakeholders, school counselors promote equity, access to opportunities, and rigorous educational experiences for all students.  Our counselors have a tremendous impact on our student’s success academically, socially, and behaviorally.  Each counselor is always available to be there for students and staff.  They play a key role supporting and advocating for students as they serve on our Intervention Team, School LeaderSIP Team, serve as our school 504 Plan Coordinators, and attend weekly grade level Professional Learning Communities (PLCs.) Thank you, Mrs. Olivia Reuss, Mrs. Ada Deen, and Mrs. Rotisha Hall, for all that you do for our school community.  We appreciate you!

Quarter 2 Report Cards will be distributed to students on Monday, 2/03/25.

8th Grade High School Parent Night: Mark your calendars for this Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 6:00 PM! The evening will begin with a large group session led by the WCPSS Family Academy, followed by breakout sessions where each high school will share specific details. Safe Driving on Campus: Please adhere to a safe speed when driving on camps to carpool drop off and pick up. Maintaining a safe speed ensures the safety of our students, staff, and visitors. Many of our students walk to and from school, using crosswalks that intersect the carpool drive to access the campus. Deputy Bullock will be patrolling and assisting with monitoring safe speeds. Thank you for your cooperation!

Biking to School: To ensure student safety in the bus loop area, students who ride their bikes to school will be asked to walk their bike to the back of the bus loop to safely leave campus.

News from the PTA: Last week Chryl Tritt was elected as the new PTA President.  The PTA board is actively planning activities to support our students, families, and staff. Be on the lookout for ways to connect this spring. Haven’t joined the PTA yet, it’s never too late. There’s still time to join the fun and make a difference! Join the PTA through GiveBacks

School Spelling Bee: Congratulations to 8th grader, John Velasco, for winning the school spelling bee. Way to go, John!
