Teacher of the Year: We are excited to announce that Ms. Dazell Demming has been named the 2024-2025 Durant Road Middle School Teacher of the Year! Ms. Demming teaches 6th-grade Social Studies and consistently goes above and beyond to inspire, engage, and advocate for her students. Her dedication to creating meaningful learning experiences and fostering a love of history makes her a true champion for children. Please join us in celebrating Ms. Demming’s remarkable achievements and wishing her the best as she represents Durant Road Middle School at the district level. We are so proud to have such an outstanding educator on our team!

Opportunity Culture ( OC™) News: Durant Road MS has achieved OC™ Certified Provisional Level status for the 2023-24 school year, which recognizes the school’s design plan and commitment to implementing the Opportunity Culture model with fidelity. This certification means that Durant Road MS has plans and is committed to effectively using the Opportunity Culture framework to extend the reach of its most effective teachers, ensuring all students have access to high-quality instruction. 

Winter Athletics: Tryouts for Cheerleading, Girls' Basketball, and Boys' Basketball will take place on Monday, November 18th & Tuesday, November 19th. Games begin in a few weeks.

Credit By Demonstrated Mastery (CDM): CDM offers North Carolina students the opportunity to personalize and accelerate their learning by earning course credit through a demonstration of mastery of course material by demonstrating a deep understanding of course content, without course enrollment or seat time. At DRMS, this applies to 8th grade students. For more information, please review the DRMS CDM Family Presentation. The application window is open now through Dec. 20, 2024

News from the PTA: Join us at our first PTA meeting tomorrow, 11/19/24 at 6:30 PM in the Media Center, when we vote in the PTA officers for the 2024-25 year.
