DRMS' Principal Message

Hello, Dolphins!  This is Kristen Faircloth, proud principal at Durant Road Middle School, with your June 23, 2024, Family Message.  

 

Congratulations!  We have made it to the last three days of the 2023-24 school year.  We have many celebrations and fun activities planned for the next three days in honor of our students and their hard work over the year.  On behalf of the faculty and staff at DRMS, thank you for entrusting your child in us, partnering with us, and making the 2023-24 school year a success.  We wish you and your family a wonderful summer break.  

 

Please take a moment to read through the Family Message below, as well as the grade level newsletters, and do not hesitate to contact us if there is any way we can support you.  

 

Dates to Remember:

  • June 24 - EOG/EOC TOPS (ice cream social) and Growth (pep rally) Celebrations for students

  • June 24 - 6th & 7th Grades EOY Awards distributions for students

  • June 25 - 8th Grade Fun Day

  • June 26 - 8th Grade Celebration

  • June 26 - Last Day of School

  • June 27-28 - Remediation & Retest Days

 

EOG Remediation & Readministration Opportunity: Durant Road Middle School is committed to providing all students with an excellent education.  During the week of June 10, your child participated in the regular administration of North Carolina End-of-Grade (EOG) tests.  Students who score Level 3 or higher on these assessments are considered proficient.  Students who do not score a Level 3 or higher on the regular administration and have passed the course/subject have the option to participate in a Remediation and Readministration opportunity.  

 

Should your child meet the criteria for this opportunity, and you choose for your child to participate, the Remediation and Readministration will take place on Thursday, June 27 and Friday, June 28.  Transportation will be provided for those who qualify and indicate they are interested.  Breakfast and lunch will be available for all students.  

 

Eligible students received an invitation to the remediation and readministration program on Thursday, June 20, 2024.    

 

DRMS will provide remediation and a readministration of tests on the following dates:

  • Reading EOG - Thursday, June 27

  • Math EOG - Friday, June 28

  • Science EOG - Thursday, June 27 and Friday, June 14

 

 

8th Grade Celebration Information: As your child’s time at DRMS comes to an end, we have a few celebrations planned.  Please pay close attention to the 8th Grade Newsletters and communication for specific details, times, etc.  

 

  • 8th Grade Fun Day - The 8th Grade Fun Day will be held on Tuesday, June 25 during the school day!  

 

  • 8th Grade Celebration - The 8th Grade “Moving Up” Celebration will be held on Wednesday, June 26 as a walk-through event and based on assigned times.  

    • Why: To celebrate our 8th-grade students completing middle school!

 

  • When: Wednesday, June 26 from 9:00 AM -11:00 AM based on assigned time

 

  • Where: The walk-through celebration will be held in the auditorium and gym

 

  • Who:  Families will arrive in the bus loop (map) according to their homeroom and assigned time with the student’s Entrance Ticket that will be provided to students.  

  • Desmarais and Cisowski- 9:00- 9:20

  • Otto, Carnes and Miller- 9:20- 9:40

  • Wale/Poirier and Hunt- 9:40- 10:00

  • Howell, Sabb and Dunton- 10:00- 10:20

  • Hoke - 10:20-10:40

 

  • What: In celebration of each 8th grade Dolphin, a “Walk Through” event will be held on Wednesday, June 26.  Students and families will walk through the auditorium and watch their student walk across the stage to receive their certificate and report card.  Students and families will then move to the gym for a reception, photo opportunities, and time with friends.  

 

DRMS Yearbooks Are Here!

Distribution Details: Students will receive their yearbooks at the end-of-year celebration for their grade level at the end of the month. If you haven't purchased a yearbook yet, it's not too late! We still have some available.

Technology Reminder: Per WCPSS Technology Services, all students in grades 5, 8, and 12 must return their assigned Chromebooks on or before the last day of school. At the beginning of the 2024-25 school year, all students in grades 6 and 9 who returned their Chromebook during the previous year will receive a new Chromebook and charger.  DRMS eighth grade students turned in their WCPSS Chromebook and charger to their core 4 teachers on June 18, 2024.  

 

Attendance Information: In order to make attendance notes easier for parents/guardians, we have an email address where you can submit digital pictures of doctor's notes or just email the attendance of your student's attendance note. The email address is attendance399@wcpss.net. We will still accept paper attendance notes in the front office. 

 

 

Rising 7th Grade - Important! Immunizations Required: NC State Law mandates that all 7th-grade students have their TDAP and Meningococcal (MCV) vaccines by the start of their 7th grade year, July 29, 2024.  7th grade students who have not submitted their immunizations will be suspended based on policy.  Please return immunization records showing TDAP and Meningococcal (MCV) vaccines anytime between now and July 29, 2024. Immunization records may be dropped off at the front office or emailed to kbograd@wcpss.net.  We appreciate your attention to this mandate.
