DRMS' Principal Message

Hello Dolphins!  This is Kristen Faircloth, proud principal at Durant Road Middle School, with your July 24, 2022 Family Message.

Welcome to the 2022-23 school year!  We hope you and your family have enjoyed a relaxing and fun-filled break making memories and recharging your batteries.  The DRMS faculty and staff have been working hard to prepare and welcome you to the best year yet!

Please take a minute to read through the Family Message below to ensure you have the information you need to be set up for success.  Don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or needs you may have as we are here to support you.

Grade Level Academies:  We are beyond excited to offer our yearly Grade Level Academies at Durant Road Middle School!  The purpose of our academies is a combination of a “Meet the Teacher” and “Open House” event for students and one family member to attend together and stay the entire session.  Please note, this is not a floating event and will start promptly at your assigned time.

During this event, students will receive their schedule, walk through their classes, hear information about their academic classes, and hear an overview of important information about our school.  Parents/guardians will also have an opportunity to hear from the principal and grade-level assistant principal, and visit our cafeteria with rotations for “DRMS 101”.  Some of our cafeteria rotations will include Meal Benefit applications, transportation, medication drop off, PowerSchool sign-up, schedule change requests, PTA membership, Carpool tags, volunteer registration, pick-up of previous year’s yearbooks, and Choral Booster membership.

Please plan to park in our school’s bus parking lot.  If you are looking at the entrance to Durant Road Middle School, the bus lot entrance is to the left.

Our Academy Events will take place on the following dates and times.

  • Tuesday, July 26, 2022
      • 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM:  6th Grade Students (Last Names start with A-L)
      • 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM:  6th Grade Students (Last Names start with M-Z)
  • Wednesday, July 27, 2022
    • 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM:  7th Grade Students
    • 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM:  8th Grade Students

We look forward to seeing you at our Academy events this week!

Bus Transportation:  As the school year is quickly approaching, it is important to ensure that your child has bus transportation if they require it. Please log in to PowerSchool and/or have your child log in to PowerSchool to check their bus route assignment. If there is no bus route assigned and you want your child to be registered for the bus, please go to and complete the registration form for 2022-23.
Once you have registered, you should receive an email with a case number. This lets you know that the WCPSS Transportation Department has received your request and will work on processing the request. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Ralph Chew, 7th grade assistant principal.

Individual Student Reports (ISRs):  A message went out to parents on July 20th about Individual Student Reports (ISRs).

Middle or high school (grades 6-13) parents are able to view their child’s ISRs in PowerSchool, beginning July 20th. The ISRs will only be viewable in the web-based version of PowerSchool. They are currently not viewable in the mobile app.

If parents have questions about how to interpret these results, please view this short video .

DRMS PTA News:  DRMS PTA would like to announce that Devona Cranford has graciously accepted the open position of PTA President for the 2022-2023 school year. With Devona moving into the president position, our PTA is in need of a secretary.  The secretary's main purpose is to take meeting minutes at our 1-hour monthly PTA meetings (we typically do not meet during track out). The estimated time commitment is approximately 2 hours per month. Prior experience is not necessary. Please reach out to
Thank you for supporting DRMS,
