DRMS' Principal Message
Hello Dolphins! This is Kristen Faircloth, proud principal at Durant Road Middle School, with your May 22, 2022 Family Message.
We hope everyone was able to brave the heat this past week and stay cool! With the heat, some of our students have moved to summer vacation in their minds. If you have not looked at your child's grades recently, we encourage a quick review. We do not want families to be surprised at the end of the quarter or year if a child did not turn in any of their assignments, etc.
As a reminder, grade-level-specific information will be shared via grade-level communication. Please take a moment to review a few key items below. As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions or needs you have.
DRMS Interims: We are half way through quarter 4! May 23-May 27 is interim week. As mentioned above, please log into PowerSchool to view your child's grades. Don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher(s) with any questions or concerns you may have.
Arts Performances: Congratulations to our band students for an amazing performance on May 19! We are looking forward to enjoying the chorus concert on Thursday, May 26 and the dance concert on Thursday, June 2. Come out and support our Dolphins!
End-of-Year State Testing: At the end of the school year, your child will participate in the regular administration of North Carolina End-of-Grade (EOG) tests , Reading, Math and Science 8. Students enrolled in Math 1 will participate in an End of Course (EOC) test and students in Math 2 will participate in a teacher-made assessment. Testing will follow this schedule. Students who score Level 3 or higher on these assessments are considered proficient.
If you have any questions about EOG or EOC testing, please contact our testing coordinator, Erin Dunbar edunbar@wcpss.net.
EOG Remediation/Readministration Opportunity: This year, Wake County has opted in to have students that pass an EOG course, but do not score a 3 or higher on the EOG to have an opportunity for remediation and readministration of the EOG. Please refer to previous information and/or reach out to our testing coordinator, Erin Dunbar edunbar@wcpss.net with questions. Again, this is optional for only those students that qualify.
