DRMS' Principal Message

Happy Sunday Dolphins!  This is Kristen Faircloth, proud Principal at Durant Road Middle School, with your June 13, 2021 Family Message.

We hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and enjoying the beautiful weather on this Sunday.  The last week of the 2020-21 school year has arrived!  Congratulations to our Dolphins for completing their EOGs and EOCs over the past few weeks.  We are proud of the hard work and perseverance of our learners and looking forward to the last week filled with fun and engaging activities.  Continue to encourage your child to give their very best and end the school year on a positive note.  Please take a moment to read the updates and information below and do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions or concerns.  We are here to support you and your family.

Instruction for the Remainder of the Year:  Your teachers have been working hard planning extension activities, labs, and projects for students to engage in during the last week of school.  While students are working on these assignments, teachers will be supporting students with make-up/missing work.  The attendance and discipline policies will remain consistent through the end of the school year.  Students are expected to show respect and continue to give their best self right up until the last day of school.

End of Year Celebrations: We are so excited to celebrate our Dolphins, their hard work and perseverance this school year. The end of year celebrations will be drive thru events.  Please see the grade level invitations in the links below.  We can't wait to see you and your decorated vehicles!

Return Materials/Devices to DRMS:  To end the school year, WCPSS Technology Services requests ALL WCPSS-issued WiFi hotspots be returned to the school.  Hotspots will be disabled after the last day of school.  Students will keep their WCPSS-issued Chromebooks, even if they are transferring or advancing to another WCPSS school. Students who are graduating or leaving WCPSS are required to return all devices to their school on or before their last day.

Starting June 1, in-person students can return school materials to their Core 1 teacher.  Virtual Academy students can return these items to the front office or at our End of Year Celebrations on June 22, 2021.  This includes:

  • WCPSS library books

  • EL (language arts) novels

  • WCPSS- issued hotspots

New Web Page With "Before You Leave" Technology Information:  To assist students and staff that are leaving WCPSS, a “Before You Leave” web page has been created to assist with technology-related items that students and staff will find useful.

Lunch & Learn:  For our last Lunch & Learn, the  DRMS Student Services Team is hosting a PARENT/CAREGIVER INPUT SESSION on Tuesday, June 15, 12:30 -1:00 PM. We are looking for input as we plan for our 2021-22 DRMS Family Engagement Series, offering sessions relevant to support your needs and the needs of your students.  The format will be a Google Meet.  Please sign up using the following link: Sign Up Form. A link for the google meet will be emailed to families who register.  We hope you find this community engagement session informative!
