DRMS Principal's Message
Hello, this is Kristen J Faircloth, principal at Durant Road Middle School with your November 10, 2019 weekly message.
We had a great Spirit Week including a pep rally, athletics, and a Family Academy/School Dance. A huge shout out to all the Dolphins who participated and showed their school spirit this week.
Monday, November 11, 2019 is Veterans Day and a holiday for all students and staff. DRMS honors all military veterans. Thank you for our freedom.
Thank you to the DRMS PTA, our Dolphins will enjoy our first cultural arts performance on Wednesday, November 13, 2019. La Fiesta Latin Jazz Quintet will be performing for all of our learners on Wednesday.
The Wake County Public School System has announced the dates the children will attend school to make up the missed school days on September 5 and 6. Year round schools will be making up the missed days Saturday, November 16 and Saturday, December 7. Buses will run on their normal schedule in the morning with students arriving on campus at 7:45 A.M.. Durant Road Middle School will dismiss at 11:45 A.M.. There will be no lunch served during Saturday makeup days. It is very important for you to notify your child’s teacher, in writing, if your child will be changing their normal mode of transportation home on these days. Sending a written notice will ensure the safety of your child as well as help us prepare for an orderly dismissal. Students will go home on their normal mode of transportation if a note is not received.
DRMS will be hosting Student Led Conferences on Thursday, November 21, 2019 from 3:30 PM - 6:30 PM. Student Led Conferences allow students and parents/guardians to reflect upon and discuss individual student's progress and make a plan on how to continue their success or improve in some areas where they may need additional support. Teachers will be available to answer any questions students and/or parents/guardians have as it pertains to the learner's class grades. If you would like for your student to remain on campus until your conference time, please be sure to indicate this when you are signing up. Students who remain on campus will be supervised in study hall until their parents/guardians arrive for their designated conference time. Families may purchase dinner at the food trucks that will be on campus from 4:00 PM - 6:30 PM.
If you plan on attending Student Led Conferences please, sign up by clicking on this link.
Our Winter Wonderland coat drive is under way. We are collecting any clean, new or gently used coats, etc. to help local children and families stay warm this winter. A donation bin is available by the front office until Thanksgiving break. We appreciate your help in making this community service project a school wide success.
Thank you for supporting DRMS,
Kristen Faircloth
