Hello, this is Kristen Faircloth, principal at Durant Road Middle School, with your September 6, 2019 weekly message.
We have had an interesting week of weather! We hope all of our Dolphin families stayed safe during the storm. Due to the unpredictable effects from Hurricane Dorian, WCPSS schools were closed on September 5th and 6th. The Saturday make up days are scheduled for November 16, 2019 and December 7, 2019. Students may begin arriving on campus at 7:45 AM with instruction starting at 8:15 AM. Students will be dismissed at 11:45 AM on Saturday make up days. Breakfast will be served. However, there will be no lunch on Saturday make up days. We encourage students to bring a healthy snack on these days.
We have several athletic events taking place this week:
- Monday, September 9: football parent meeting in the gym @ 5:30 PM
- Tuesday, September 10: fall sport pictures for girls soccer, volleyball, and football @ 3:30 PM
- Wednesday, September 11: volleyball parent meeting in the gym @ 5:30 PM
We are looking to expand our school-to-career volunteers and resources. These events usually take up a minimal amount of volunteer time but have a maximum impact on our students. Please take a minute to complete the survey link below. If you have any questions, feel free to contact our Career Development Coordinator, Tracey Latham (tlatham@wcpss.net).
The PTA's first Spirit Night of the year is Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Manhattan Pizza, located in the Falls Pointe shopping center (on the corner of Durant and Falls of Neuse). A portion of all sales to DRMS families from 5-8 pm will come back to our school. We hope to see you there!
We also hope you'll join us for a Saturday morning school spruce-up! Student, staff and family volunteers are needed from 9am to noon Sept. 21 to help pick up debris and trash around the school grounds, power-wash the front sidewalks, and help beautify our campus.
