DRMS Principal's Message

Hello, this is Kristen Faircloth, principal at Durant Road Middle School, with your May 12, 2019 weekly message.

What an exciting week we had celebrating the many student talents at DRMS!  Thank you to everyone who came out and supported the student/staff softball game.  What a great way for the girls to end a successful season.  A shout out to the softball coaches; Matt Mauder, Olympia Agnew and Haley Smith for all of their hard work and commitment to the team.  We enjoyed a phenomenal band concert on Tuesday evening showcasing the 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands.  Congratulations to Steve Kuni for a very special evening that celebrated his legacy.  Everyone thoroughly enjoyed listening to the voices of our chorus students Thursday evening.  Thank you to MaryRobert McGrath for building the chorus program that continues to grow each day.

We also had a wonderful time celebrating the Durant Road Teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week.  Thank you to the DRMS PTA for the luncheon from City Barbeque and breakfast to show our teachers how much they are appreciated.  Thank you to all the parents and students who recognized teachers through kind words, notes, and treats.  Ms. Chrissy Myers, DRMS' Teacher of the Year, was honored at the Teacher of the Year Banquet Thursday evening.  Such a well deserved honor.

The Spring Sports Awards Ceremony will be held on Monday, May 13, 2019 starting at 6:00 PM.  We look forward to celebrating our spring athletes and successful seasons.

Be sure to check out the premiere of our spring musical, Hairspray Jr., May 16 - 18.  Get swept away as we take you back to the 1962 Baltimore, where a girl named Tracy has big hair and even bigger dreams!  Shows will begin each evening (Thursday - Saturday) at 7:00 PM as well as a matinee show on Saturday at 2:00 PM.  Tickets are $5 for students and $8 for adults, purchased at the door.

On May 15, 2019, tracks 3 & 4 students will be given a chance to view their PowerSchools account (and/or given a printout) to check their status before we complete the process of calculating the end of year Honors & Principal's Lists.  All three of the previous quarters as well as the first half of quarter 4 will be calculated.  For quarter 4, students must have all missing work in to each teacher by May 21, 2019 or the grade will remain a zero.  Calculations will then be made to determine Honors and Principal's List recognitions for the end of the year programs.  Please be sure to check PowerSchools as well to make sure your student has all of his/her work in on time.  If you have any questions about this process, please contact your child's homeroom teacher.

Thank you for supporting DRMS,

Kristen Faircloth
