DRMS Principal's Message

Hello, this is Kristen Faircloth, principal at Durant Road Middle School with your weekly message.

We had a great week at Durant Road Middle School welcoming back our track 4 Dolphins and celebrating Terri Green, secretary; Martha Bautista, receptionist; Amy Wolz, book keeper; Zaquana Diggs, data manager and Deborah Hunter, guidance tech for Administrative Assistance Appreciation Week.  The week of April 29 - May 3 is Child Nutrition Employee Week and we look forward to celebrating the hard work the ladies do to keep us fed and healthy.

Thank you for an amazing Splash Dash!  Our Splash Dash color runs were awesome and we would like to say a big thank you to the parent and staff volunteers who helped make it a great success.  We have raised almost $10,000 which will go toward technology needs in the school.  A huge shout out to our sponsors: Laster Orthodontics (platinum); City Barbeque, Instant Imprints, i9 Sports, and Pro 3:5 Sports Academy (gold); Durant Road Musical Theater and GoPlaySave Triangle (silver), and Nothing Bundt Cakes, The Greenway Club at Falls River, and Young's Tree Tech, LLC (bronze).  And thank you to prize sponsors NCFC, Durham Bulls, Manhattan Pizza, Defy Gravity, Gamesturz, Learning Express, Caretta Coffee & Cafe', Kwench Juice Cafe', and Brusters.  The fundraiser runs through Tuesday, April 30, 2019.  It is not too late to donate to help us reach our $20,000 goal.

DRMS' next spirit night is on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at City Barbeque!  DRMS will receive 25% of sales from 10:30 AM - 10:00 PM.  An added bonus is ribs are on sale every Tuesday!  Take the night off from cooking and come to City Barbeque on May 7, 2019 to eat with friends and support our school.

Many of you are aware that thousands of educators from throughout North Carolina are planning to gather in Raleigh on Wednesday, May 1, 2019.  They are attending a rally at the General Assembly to improve classroom opportunities for our children and to improve working conditions for teachers, bus drivers, cafeteria workers and others who support our school.  All WCPSS schools will be closed for normal operations on Wednesday, May 1, 2019.  It will become an optional teacher workday.  No make-up day for students will be required due to the number of instructional hours already accumulated this year.

Interims go home for Dolphins on tracks 1 & 2 on Friday, May 3, 2019.  Report cards go home with track 4 Dolphins on Friday, May 3, 2019.

Thank you for supporting DRMS,

Kristen Faircloth
