Important Updates

 

BMES Handbook Reminders

 

As we enter 2025, please make sure to review BMES Handbook and read the important reminders below.



  • Communication
    • Unexpected conferences can interfere with your child’s instructional time.  If you have a concern or question about policies or procedures, discipline, homework, or classroom instruction, please discuss this with the classroom teacher PRIOR to contacting an administrator.  Teachers are open to listening to your concerns and working together to resolve any classroom issues.  If you have any concerns, staff will respond to you within 24-48 hrs. 



  • Change in Transportation
    • IMPORTANT: If someone else (other than parents/guardians) is picking up your child from carpool, it is important that you call the front office before 12:30pm to make the school aware. Otherwise, the individual will be asked to park and wait until staff receive confirmation from the parent that this student can be released. 



  • Afternoon Carpool Pickup
    • Our carpool ends promptly at 3:30 after which time parents are considered late for pick-up.  After 3:30, parents will have to come to the front office to pick up their student. Late pick-up times will be documented. We understand that at times delays do occur, however; after three late pick-ups, referrals will be made to administration as well as our social worker. 



  • Walker Dismissal
    • All requests for students to be walkers must be approved by a school administrator in advance, based on walk zone eligibility. 



  • If you drive to campus, join the carpool line. Any family eligible for walking from campus can also be given a carpool number for days of inclement weather or leaving campus in a personal vehicle. Do Not park your car in the carpool parking lot to then go pick up your child from walkers. If this becomes a concern, administration will be contacting families regarding school policy and procedures.



  • If your child is not an approved walker, they will be sent to Carpool. All families with children not approved to be Walkers, will need to go through the carpool line to be picked up. We will NOT allow parents to walk to the gym and pick up students for carpool. Parents should use the carpool line.



  • Electronics
    • Please note that the below technology policy includes: Cell phones, Smart Watches, Gab Watches, and any other technology devices. If a device becomes a disruption to the learning environment, students will be asked to place the item in their backpack. If the device continues to be a disruption after being given a warning, school staff will confiscate the device. Parents will then be required to pick this item up from the front office.




  • Visitors
    • We prioritize student and staff safety and protection of instructional time. All visits to the school shall be by appointment. 



  • Visitors must ring the doorbell near the front doors of the school and check-in at the office before entering the building. Visitors will remain outside the building and a staff member will provide assistance. 



  • IMPORTANT: Visitors should be prepared to show proper identification before entering the building. You will also be required to check-in at the front office. All visitors will be given a visitor badge for identification. Please remember to sign out before leaving the school. 



  •  If you wish to visit your child’s classroom, please make arrangements with the teacher at least 24 hours in advance. Please understand that visiting/volunteering in the classroom is not the time for a teacher conference. Keep in mind that unannounced visits during the school day take instructional time from your child and others and therefore, will NOT be permitted. If you have an urgent situation, please come to the office and we will assist you.

School Communication

 

Please make sure that you are receiving school communication from Ms. McKinley. There have been some families that have stated that they are not receiving the school communication. It is important that you are receiving this information as it contains important announcements. Please check out the following link for more information on school messenger: https://www.wcpss.net/schoolmessenger.

 

If you are not receiving school communication, contact our front office at (919)850-8720 so that we can verify what information you have in our system.

 

Please visit our website, www.wcpss.net/brentwoodes for more information about Brentwood Magnet Elementary. Ms. McKinley will send home a weekly School Messenger to all families every Sunday evening. These messages are located on the Brentwood website at the following link. 

 

REMINDER: Brentwood Afterschool Program

 

We will continue partnering with Raleigh Parks and Recreation for our After School program. The program will be held on the Brentwood campus on school days from 3:00 - 6:00 for a cost.

 

The program strives to make available a high-quality program at a low cost. The goal is to include a variety of curriculum-based programs such as arts & crafts, fitness & nutrition, and homework assistance.

 

Registration needs to be completed through Raleigh Parks and Rec. For more information and the registration process, please visit:

A medida que entramos en 2025, asegúrese de revisar Manual BMES y lea los recordatorios importantes a continuación.



  • Comunicación
    • Las conferencias inesperadas pueden interferir con el tiempo de instrucción de su hijo.  Si tiene alguna inquietud o pregunta sobre políticas o procedimientos, disciplina, tarea o instrucción en el aula, hable con el maestro del aula ANTES de comunicarse con un administrador.  Los maestros están abiertos a escuchar sus inquietudes y trabajar juntos para resolver cualquier problema en el aula.  Si tiene alguna inquietud, el personal le responderá dentro de 24 a 48 horas. 



  • Cambio en el transporte
    • IMPORTANTE: Si alguien más (que no sea los padres/tutores) va a recoger a su hijo desde compartir coche, es importante que llame a la oficina principal antes de las 12:30 p. m. para informar a la escuela. De lo contrario, se le pedirá al individuo que se estacione y espere hasta que el personal reciba la confirmación de los padres de que este estudiante puede ser liberado. 



  • Recogida en vehículo compartido por la tarde
    • Nuestro viaje compartido termina puntualmente a las 3:30, después de lo cual se considera que los padres llegan tarde para recogerlos.  Después de las 3:30, los padres tendrán que venir a la oficina principal para recoger a sus estudiantes. Se documentarán los horarios de recogida tardía. Sin embargo, entendemos que a veces se producen retrasos; Después de tres recogidas tarde, se harán referencias a la administración y a nuestro trabajador social. 



  • Despido del caminante
    • Todas las solicitudes para que los estudiantes sean los caminantes deben ser aprobados por un administrador escolar con anticipación, según la elegibilidad de la zona para caminar. 



  • Si conduce hasta el campus, únase a la fila de viajes compartidos. A cualquier familia elegible para caminar desde el campus también se le puede dar un número de viaje compartido para los días de mal tiempo o para salir del campus en un vehículo personal. No estacione su automóvil en el estacionamiento de vehículos compartidos para luego ir a recoger a su hijo a los andadores. Si esto se convierte en una preocupación, la administración se comunicará con las familias con respecto a la política y los procedimientos escolares.



  • Si su hijo no es un andador aprobado, será enviado a Carpool. Todas las familias con niños que no estén aprobados para ser caminantes deberán pasar por la fila de viajes compartidos para ser recogidos. NO permitiremos que los padres caminen al gimnasio y recojan a los estudiantes para compartir el viaje. Los padres deben utilizar la línea de viajes compartidos.



  • Electrónica
    • Tenga en cuenta que la siguiente política tecnológica incluye: Teléfonos móviles, relojes inteligentes, relojes Gab y cualquier otro dispositivo tecnológico.. Si un dispositivo interrumpe el entorno de aprendizaje, se pedirá a los estudiantes que coloquen el artículo en su mochila. Si el dispositivo continúa causando problemas después de recibir una advertencia, el personal de la escuela confiscará el dispositivo. Luego, los padres deberán recoger este artículo en la oficina principal.




  • Visitantes
    • Priorizamos la seguridad de los estudiantes y el personal y la protección del tiempo de instrucción. Todas las visitas a la escuela serán con cita previa. 



  • Los visitantes deben tocar el timbre cerca de las puertas principales de la escuela y registrarse en la oficina antes de ingresar al edificio. Los visitantes permanecerán fuera del edificio y un miembro del personal brindará asistencia. 



  • IMPORTANTE: Los visitantes deben estar preparados para mostrar una identificación adecuada antes de ingresar al edificio. También se le pedirá que se registre en la oficina principal. Todos los visitantes recibirán una credencial de visitante para su identificación. Recuerde cerrar sesión antes de salir de la escuela. 



  •  Si desea visitar el salón de clases de su hijo, haga arreglos con el maestro al menos con 24 horas de anticipación. Por favor comprenda que visitar o ser voluntario en el salón de clases no es el momento para una conferencia con maestros. Tenga en cuenta que las visitas no anunciadas durante el día escolar toman tiempo de instrucción de su hijo y de otras personas y, por lo tanto, NO serán permitidas. Si tienes una situación urgente, por favor acércate a la oficina y te atenderemos.

Continuaremos asociándonos con Parques y Recreación de Raleigh para nuestro programa extracurricular. El programa se llevará a cabo en el campus de Brentwood los días escolares de 3:00 a 6:00 por un costo.

 

El programa se esfuerza por ofrecer un programa de alta calidad a bajo costo. El objetivo es incluir una variedad de programas basados ​​en el plan de estudios, como artes y manualidades, acondicionamiento físico y nutrición, y asistencia con las tareas.
