Class Picture Day – Wednesday, April 23
Say cheese! Classroom pictures will be taken on Tuesday, April 23. Class photos are just $10 and can be ordered online or through any order envelopes sent home by your child’s teacher. We’re looking forward to seeing those smiling faces on picture day!
Walker Families
As a friendly reminder, I ask our walker families and those who stay after school to socialize to please be mindful of where you park. A homeowner on Valley View has expressed concerns about cars parking on both sides of the street, leading to traffic congestion, blocked driveways, and even minor accidents.
Wiley is part of a larger community, and it’s important that we show kindness, empathy, and respect to our neighbors. To help keep our students safe and traffic flowing smoothly, please park on only one side of Valley View moving forward.
Thank you for your cooperation and for being a wonderful part of our Wiley community!

Wiley’s Zero Food Waste Initiative
Exciting news! Wiley has been selected as a pilot school for the Toward Zero Waste SHARE Program and was recently featured in the News & Observer! 🎉
Toward Zero Waste is a nonprofit organization committed to promoting waste-conscious living across North Carolina through inspiration, education, and action. This program aims to:
✅ Reduce the amount of wholesome, prepackaged, unopened food thrown away at schools.
✅ Establish a food recovery program that prioritizes redistribution to students first.
✅ Ensure food is available to all students, eliminating stigma.
✅ Increase student awareness of hunger and environmental responsibility.
We’re excited to be part of this important initiative and to take meaningful steps toward reducing food waste while supporting our students and community! 🌎♻️

Wiley PTA
Spring Book Fair Starts Monday
The Wiley PTA is excited to partner with Scholastic for our annual Spring Book Fair, happening Monday through Friday, 4/21–25, in the Media Center. You can find more details about the Book Fair here. It takes many helping hands to make the Book Fair a success, so we’d love for you to sign up for a volunteer slot.
We’re also incredibly proud of our Book Fairy program, which makes sure every Wiley student who wants a new book gets one. Thanks to the generosity of our amazing community, we’re able to give out nearly 100 Book Fairy tickets at each fair. Help us continue spreading the joy of reading by donating to the Book Fairy program!
Vote Wiley's Front Lawn Oak for Raleigh's Tree of the Year!
Raleigh's annual Tree of the Year contest celebrates Arbor Day and all things trees - Click this link to vote for Wiley's front lawn oak to be 2025 Tree of the Year!
Our 103-year-old willow oak has stood on Wiley Elementary’s front lawn since February 22, 1932 (it was planted to mark the 200th anniversary of George Washington’s birthday!). Today, students enjoy sitting under its shade during lunch and have nicknamed it "the bee tree” after honeybees settled into a natural cavity in its trunk. Recognizing the tree’s age and its role in the school community, the PTA sustainability committee recently planted three young swamp white oaks along the school’s front fence — to carry on the legacy of a leafy, welcoming campus for generations to come.
Field Day Volunteers Needed
Our annual Field Day is Thursday, 5/1. This is an opportunity for students to spend time outside, collaborate with their peers, and take part in an array of fun activities. Mr. Glasson needs volunteers for Field Day to run smoothly - please sign up here. Any help is appreciated as we want to provide our students with the best experience possible!
Teacher & Staff Appreciation: May 5-9
Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week is approaching. We look forward to celebrating our incredible teachers and staff. Details on how you can contribute will be shared soon!
Grounds Volunteers
Calling All High Schoolers! Help Wiley and Earn Service Hours
Do you have a high schooler or know one in need of service hours? Wiley PTA is launching a Junior Sustainability Committee this spring! We’re inviting high school students to help with grounds work at Wiley every weekend in April and early May, with two-hour volunteer shifts available. It’s a great way for older students to give back to their elementary roots—plus it helps keep our campus looking beautiful for our Wiley students!
Know a teen who may be interested? Share this opportunity and sign up here.
