Join us for lunch for National School Lunch Week

 

In honor of National School Lunch Week, we invite first-, third-, and fifth-grade families to join your child for lunch today.  If you would like to join your child for lunch please contact your child’s teacher for specific lunch details. If you have multiple children on different days you can join them both for lunch on the same day.  As a reminder, this is a lunch invitation only and we ask that all visitors limit their visit to no more than 30 minutes. Lunch times are listed below: 

 

 

 

Kid’s Heart Challenge

 

This year Coach Glasson will be participating in the Kid’s Heart Challenge with his elective students. The Kid's Heart Challenge is a nationwide educational program organized by the American Heart Association (AHA). It promotes heart health among children while raising funds for research and community programs aimed at combating heart disease. Typically held in schools, the program includes fun activities and challenges that encourage students to develop healthy lifestyle habits. In addition to raising awareness, the program helps develop a sense of responsibility and empathy in children as they learn how they can make a difference in their own health and in others' lives. Money raised for this event does not go to PTA or Wiley. Donations support the American Heart Association. 

 

Enloe Charity Ball and Trunk or Treat

 

Enloe Charity Ball is a student-led initiative to improve the greater Raleigh community through service and fundraising. Each fall since 2004, a group of Enloe High School students has partnered with a local nonprofit to raise funds and awareness for that chosen organization. This year, Enloe Charity Ball’s beneficiary is CASA, a nonprofit working to provide access to stable, affordable housing for people who are homeless or at risk by developing and managing rental communities. Our goal for 2024 is $170,000 for the amazing CASA.

 

To help raise funds, Enloe Charity Ball will be hosting an event, Trunk Or Treat, on October 29th, from 4-6 PM, at Enloe. Parking will be off Bertie Drive, as the actual Trunk or Treat cars will be in our stadium parking lot. It is free to attend, but to help raise funds for Charity Ball and our beneficiary Neighbor 2 Neighbor, there is a suggested donation of $5 per family. Since some Wiley Elementary students will attend Enloe as a feeder school, students are invited to attend and have a great time with the Enloe community.

 

The Magnet Window is open for families transitioning to middle school 

 

Magnet students who apply to their next-level pathway magnet school have the highest priority, after siblings, to be selected for that magnet school. For more information about magnet selection priorities, visit wcpss.net/priorities.

 

For the 2025-2026 school year, the application for Magnet schools will be open from October 14 through January 23. Applications are not first-come, first-served. Applicants who are selected for a magnet school to which they applied are automatically assigned to that school. Only apply to a school or schools you want to attend. Families are notified via email if they receive a seat at a school they requested. If you are selected, you will only be selected for one of the schools to which you applied.

 

Volunteers- must register EVERY YEAR! 

 

Parents, staff, and community members may now register to volunteer in our schools through MyVolunteer. All volunteers must re-register with the new system to volunteer in the 204-25 school year.   If you wish to attend field trips, lead small groups, or volunteer in the classroom you must register to volunteer. 

 

• Make sure you include your name and contact information when you begin the registration process.  If you leave the CRC background site before completing your contact information, you will have to begin the process again.

•  You must include your social security number to register to volunteer.  If you do not have a social security number, please contact volunteers@wcpss.net or call 919-694-8233.

• You will be notified by the MyVolunteer system if you are approved to volunteer.

October is Disability History Awareness Month

 

Wake County’s Special Education Services remains committed to supporting the recognition of Disability History & Awareness Month in our schools. This year's theme is "Unity in Diversity." Learning Disabilities Awareness Month, celebrated every October, aims to increase awareness and understanding for individuals with learning disabilities while celebrating their unique strengths and contributions. This month and throughout the year staff will be encouraged to develop and use common language and understanding of how to recognize, support, and highlight this group’s different abilities.

 

Office Closed Daily 3:30 - 4:15

 

This year we will close our office for dismissal between 3:30 and 4:15. At this time, we will not be dismissing students from the office except in the event of emergencies. This is our busiest time of the day and we are completely committed to the safe and timely dismissal of all our students. We ask that if you know that you have to pick up a child for an appointment or special occasion you do so before this time or communicate the transportation change before 3:30. If your reason for early dismissal can wait we ask that you wait patiently in our carpool line as every minute of instruction matters. Fifteen minutes of missed instruction a day is more than an hour of missed instruction a week. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. 

 

Excused Absences for Religious/Educational Reasons\

 

As you make plans for the school year, we ask that you submit requests for excused educational or religious absences well in advance. All requests should be submitted at least two to three weeks prior to the requested dates. According to policy, excused absences for educational reasons are authorized for educational experiences that are comparable to school academic experiences. The intent of the experience should be educational from the outset and an academic assignment (i.e. journal entry, reflection, presentation, images, project, etc.) will be required as verification of the educational experience.  Family trips and vacations that were not designed, initially, to be educational will not be excused. The form linked here should be used to request the excused dates prior to the absence.

Items that have been in Lost & Found for one month will be donated today. Please check out the current Lost and Found inventory. You may claim your item in the cafeteria. Please remember to label your child's belongings to help us return them to their rightful owners. Let’s keep our Lost and Found clear! Thank you for your cooperation.

 

Fall Book Fair

October 21-25

 

Fall Book Fair starts on Monday! This book fair’s theme is "Believe," celebrating books that explore the ideas of growth and change. It's a fantastic opportunity to foster a love of reading and encourage our students to believe in their potential!

 

Donate to Wiley PTA Book Fairy. The Book Fairy program ensures that every student who desires a new book from the Fall Book Fair receives one. Help us fund this important program by buying a few books for our students.

 

We need your help to make this book fair successful! Please consider volunteering for a time slot during the book fair - it’s a fun and rewarding way to support our students.

 

Rangoli Cultural Arts Project: We Need Your Help!

 

We’re excited to announce that Ms. Thompson’s Quarter 2 Friday Club students will be creating a beautiful rangoli as part of a Cultural Arts project! To make this project as creative and eco-friendly as possible, we’re asking for donations of paper, any type, tissue, magazines, newspaper, colored paper, etc, as well as bottle caps of any size or color.

 

If you have any of these materials at home, please send them with your child or drop them off at the front office with the note “Art Q2.” Your contributions will help our students create vibrant, sustainable art while learning about this traditional Indian folk art.

 

Fall Festival Thanks

 

Thank you to all who joined us and made our Fall Festival a wonderful success! Your participation is what makes our school community strong, and we’re grateful for all the memories made and the smiles shared. A special thanks to our dedicated Wiley caregivers, and Wiley teachers, along with Broughton and Enloe High School students, whose hard work behind the scenes helped everything run smoothly. We look forward to many more celebrations like this in the future!
