Single Subject Acceleration
Single Subject Acceleration is the practice of assigning a student to a higher grade level in either math or reading in order to provide appropriately challenging learning opportunities. Any student in grades K-7 can have their parent request SSA testing in math or reading. The best place to begin when considering SSA for your child is to talk to your child's teachers. They can help you to assess whether your child is ready to skip a whole grade level's content.
If you decide to pursue testing for your child, you may request testing in Mathematics or English Language Arts beginning April 1st. The WCPSS SSA test request form will only be available from April 1st at 8 am to April 12th at 5 pm. They will not accept requests before or after this time period.
LINK FOR SSA TEST REQUEST FORM (only accessible between 4/1-4/12)
For more information about SSA, please watch the parent information video on our AIG website: https://wileyaig.my.canva.site/ (click on the Single Subject Acceleration tab)
Please contact our AIG teachers with any questions: Jill Molloy (jmolloy@wcpss.net) and Michelle Hoyles (mhoyles@wcpss.net)
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) will soon be mailing $120 “SUN BUCKS” grocery cards per child to all families who qualify for free or reduced price lunch as of March 28, 2024. The card will be automatically mailed to you if you qualify, but your address must be up to date with the school in order to receive it. For more information, see this website: https://www.ncdhhs.gov/sunbucks
If you'd like to apply to get breakfast and lunch for free to automatically receive the grocery card, the application is here: https://www.myschoolapps.com. They've really raised the financial limits this year to get free lunch, so lots of families qualify when they haven't before!
Dreambox Usage
Students are expected to complete at least 5 lessons a week in Dreambox. A Harvard University study has shown that just 60 minutes of DreamBox lessons per week can fast-track your students up to two grade levels in a year. We recommend that students complete five or more lessons per week with DreamBox Learning because students who complete five lessons each week show more math growth than those who complete fewer lessons. One lesson takes about 15 minutes. Dreambox is adaptive and constantly responding to the skills and understanding of your child. Having your child complete at least one Dreambox lesson a week can help your child’s teacher better understand their need, extend their learning, and/or address learning gaps.

Wiley PTA is immensely proud of our Book Fairy program, which ensures that every student who desires a new book at the Book Fair receives one. Through this initiative, we distribute Book Fairy tickets to nearly 100 Wiley students at each Book Fair. The success of this program is due entirely to the generous donations from our Wiley community. Help us nurture lifetime readers by donating to the Book Fairy program!
