Wiley Elementary Foundation
5th Grade Legacy Brick Fundraiser
Help start a new tradition at Wiley to congratulate 5th graders in a unique way as they graduate!
Engraved Legacy Bricks line the walkway to the main entrance of the school. They reflect decades of school history and capture lasting memories. Let's add the names of all our soon-to-be-graduates to this path to celebrate their achievements as they embark on new adventures but stay connected to their Wiley experience!
If 25 families donate $20 each, we can commemorate the entire 5th-grade class on a set of bricks listing students' first names. This is also a great way for grandparents, relatives and friends to congratulate a student. Orders are due today to allow 8-10 weeks for engraving and installation before graduation.
Click here to participate and see a sample photo!
For an additional optional cost, families can also order an individual, customized Legacy Brick to recognize their student, thank a teacher or share a message. The cost is $150 per brick.
Proceeds from Legacy Brick orders support the Wiley Elementary Foundation, which contributes funds to teacher and staff salaries and helps the Wiley magnet program thrive. Contact Allison Gray at wileyelementaryfoundation@gmail.com or 919-452-4137 with questions.

Tips for Positive Discipline
While parenting is a joy, it can also be exhausting. This is the first segment in a two part series on parenting tips to assist you. Here are a few to help you parent in a positive way:
- Show respect by focusing on the behavior, not the child.
- Be firm, fair, and consistent. Consistency is key!
- Physical punishment teaches children that violence is ok.
- Act quickly so your child associates misbehavior with consequences.
- Fit the consequence to the behavior. For example, if your child draws on the wall, the consequence can be to clean the wall.
- Cool down before you discipline- deep breaths. Remember, you are the role model.
- Catch them doing the right thing & give specific praise about the behavior you like.
Part 2 will come next month! I am here to help. I can be by calling 919-856-7723, through talking points or via e-mail: nomonte@wcpss.net
Dreambox Usage
Students are expected to complete at least 5 lessons a week in Dreambox. A Harvard University study has shown that just 60 minutes of DreamBox lessons per week can fast-track your students up to two grade levels in a year. We recommend that students complete five or more lessons per week with DreamBox Learning because students who complete five lessons each week show more math growth than those who complete fewer lessons. One lesson takes about 15 minutes. Dreambox is adaptive and constantly responding to the skills and understanding of your child. Having your child complete at least one Dreambox lesson a week can help your child’s teacher better understand their need, extend their learning, and/or address learning gaps.
