This year for the holiday season Wiley will take action by collecting new and gently used winter wear for the greater community. This effort supports UN Goal #1 No Poverty and goal #3 Good Health and Wellbeing as we provide support for those less fortunate and do our part to address the needs of those in our community. For the remainder of the month, Wiley will be collecting Winter Wear for a local shelter. This includes coats, jackets, scarves, gloves, toboggans and any other winter items. Items will be collected until Friday of next week.

Guten tag, Hola, Bonjour!
The German, Spanish, and French students are teaming up to offer a European Style Christmas Market on December 13th and 14th. All students in the school are invited to attend with their classroom teacher and will "purchase" a craft to bring home (with pretend Euros). We will be serving cider and gingerbread cookies. A good night’s sleep
According to The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), studies show that children who get enough sleep have better grades, higher standardized test scores and an overall better quality of life.
The AAP recommends 9-12 hours of sleep on school nights. When this doesn’t happen, we see tired students who are falling asleep and not able to concentrate or focus on their school work. The AAP also recommends parents implementing healthy sleep habits, including enforcing a media curfew 1 hour prior to bedtime.
We have very busy schedules these days. Even so, students need to have a consistent bedtime routine. For example, they brush their teeth, read, and if possible, spend about 30 minutes in quiet, calming time before shutting the lights off to sleep. It is recommended that there should be no electronic devices in the room during this time, although classical music would be the exception as it has been proven to calm children down.
As always, I am here to help. I can be reached by calling the school at 919-856-7723, via e-mail:nomonte@wcpss.net or through talking points.

Compost now
Starting in January we will begin working with Compost Now to take action and decrease our waste. Waste reduction is a part of the UN Global Goals (#12 Responsible Consumption and Production). The PTA’s Sustainability Committee and administration are introducing composting to educate and strive towards these goals. The CompostNow bins will be here on Wednesday! Students are helping with signage. Stay tuned for more information.
Dreambox Usage
Students are expected to complete at least 5 lessons a week in Dreambox. A Harvard University study has shown that just 60-minutes of DreamBox lessons per week can fast-track your students up to two grade levels in a year.We recommend that students complete five or more lessons per week with DreamBox Learning because students who complete five lessons each week show more math growth than those who complete fewer lessons. One lesson takes about 15 minutes. Dreambox is adaptive and constantly responding to the skills and understanding of your child. Having your child complete at least one Dreambox lesson a week can help your child’s teacher better understand their need, extend their learning, and/or address learning gaps.

Here is the current Lost and Found inventory. Items that have been in the Lost and Found longer than a month will be donated today, Friday 12/8. You may claim your item(s) in the Lost and Found Room in the cafeteria.
