Principal Message 10-27-23
Friday Oct. 27 is PINK OUT DAY
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Show support for those touched by cancer by wearing pink! For resources or support go here: https://www.komen.org/#
For resources for children go here: https://kidshealth.org/en/kids/breast-cancer.html
Carpool starting Monday, October 30
Please continue to follow the carpool pattern during dismissal. To eliminate confusion, starting Monday, October 30 will allow cars to move to the cones at 3:30. Hopefully, this will prevent others from jumping in line. We ask that you not move into the parking lot before 3:30 as this could potentially disrupt parents who pick up their child early as well as emergency responders in the event of an emergency. The office will continue to close from 3:30 until 4:15 during afternoon dismissal.
Costumes on October 31
Students are allowed to wear school-appropriate nonoffensive costumes to school on Tuesday, October 31. Costumes should be kid-friendly and age-appropriate. Parents are asked to avoid “scary” costumes including blood and gore as well as any costume that can be mistaken as violent. Props that resemble weapons or can be used or mistaken as weapons should be kept at home. Before sending your child to school in his/her costume please strongly consider whether or not it will disrupt or interfere with the learning environment that will continue to take place.
Get Ready, Kids Heart Challenge is Coming
Get ready for the American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge (KHC)! This year, our school will be learning about staying strong in body and mind, we’ll get moving with fun activities, meet kids with special hearts and raise funds for the health of all hearts. Plus, they’ll feel good for doing good! Download the Kids Heart Challenge App or visit heart.org/KHC to register today and earn your own BE THE TORCH WRISTBAND so you can help light the way
We would like to collect more than 100 stories to celebrate the years of memories that represent Wiley. If you or someone you know would like to share their story please share this link or add their story. Our students will use these stories to create a podcast. The link can be found here: https://forms.gle/CZ9iJnTqKaaRCBXCA We will be sharing the first recordings on the website.
We have settled on three options for our Mascot. We will now have students vote on these mascots during November. All students will be allowed to cast their vote for one of the three most popular mascots. Once all votes are cast we will announce the winner and begin the work of creating an image. We hope to review the actual mascot during our 100th-day birthday celebration in the spring.
Arrival
Make sure that you have your child at school by 9:15 am every morning. We will continue to demonstrate grace as you make your best effort to arrive before the tardy bell rings; however, we will soon begin marking students tardy. The first bell to allow students into the building rings at 8:45 am with instruction beginning at the sound of the 9:15 bell. Consistently late students consistently miss instruction.
Excused Absences for Religious/Educational Reasons
As you plan for the school year, we ask that you submit requests for excused educational or religious absences well in advance. All requests should be submitted at least two to three weeks before the requested dates. According to policy, excused absences for educational reasons are authorized for educational experiences that are comparable to school academic experiences.
The intent of the experience should be educational from the outset and an academic assignment (i.e. journal entry, reflection, presentation, images, project, etc.) will be required as verification of the educational experience. Family trips and vacations that were not designed, initially, to be educational will not be excused. The form linked here should be used to request the excused dates before the absence.
Office Closed Daily 3:30 - 4:15
This year we will close our office for dismissal between 3:30 and 4:15. At this time, we will not be dismissing students from the office except in the event of emergencies. This is our busiest time of the day and we are completely committed to the safe and timely dismissal of all our students. We ask that if you know that you have to pick up a child for an appointment or special occasion you do so before this time or communicate the transportation change before 3:30. If your reason for early dismissal can wait we ask that you wait patiently in our carpool line as every minute of instruction matters. Fifteen minutes of missed instruction a day is more than an hour of missed instruction a week. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

There were many great highlights – from alumni and student music performances to food trucks and bouncy houses, fun crafts, face painting, and more! Thank you all for coming out; it was so fun to celebrate with you.
We also want to say a BIG thank you to the sponsors and MANY dedicated volunteers and Wiley staff that helped make Homecoming and Fall Festival successful. Your partnership in this free event was essential, and the students and families enjoyed a fun and safe afternoon due to your time and help.
Food Trucks: Will & Pops, Mr. Cheesesteak, Poblano's Tacos, Kona Ice
Bounce Houses and Face Painting: Magic by David
Special Mention: Nothing Bundt Cakes, Cecilia Rawlins Fund, Wiley Elementary Foundation, Enloe Magnet High School Key Club, Saint Mary's School
Thank You to Attendees and Supporters of the Wiley Way Soirée
The Wiley Way Soirée was a roaring success! Guests at the Saturday night party laughed with friends, filled the dance floor, and showed off amazing 1920s costumes. Bidding in the online auction was exciting until the end! A tally of funds raised is being calculated as winning bidders pay for their items.
If you didn’t win an item in the auction but want to support the Soirée’s fundraising efforts, you can still make a donation of any size at 32auctions.com/wileywaysoiree2023. Money raised benefits the Wiley community’s Cecilia Rawlins Fund and Wiley Elementary Foundation.
Huge thanks to all who donated items for the auction, bought and donated tickets, supported the event as sponsors and volunteered in many capacities. We are incredibly grateful!
Lost and Found
Haven’t seen that blue water bottle in a while? It might be in the Lost and Found! Here is the current Lost and Found inventory. You may claim your item(s) in the Lost and Found Room in the cafeteria. Items that have been in the Lost and Found since September will be donated on 11/3. Going forward, any items that have been in the Lost and Found Room longer than a month will be donated, so please check regularly.
