Share Your Gratitude  May 1 - 5

This week is a very special week as it is dedicated to the Teachers at Wiley. Please take some time this week to just say “Thank you” to a teacher at Wiley or anywhere in the world that has impacted your life. We acknowledge and are grateful for all the ways the community has supported Wiley, but if you haven’t done so yet this year please take the time to tell a Wiley staff member how amazing they are and how grateful you are for all the ways that they show up for Wiley students on a daily basis. What they do changes lives! 

 

Parent Survey April 10 -  May 12 - We have reached 75%!!! 

 

We need your feedback. We believe that helping students do their best in school requires a team effort and we need your feedback. Help us make your child’s school experience as positive and beneficial as possible by completing The WCPSS survey linked here: https://bit.ly/WCPSSFamilySurvey. The survey window is open from April 10 - May 12. We will use this information to address the needs of our community and allow you an opportunity to share your opinions.  

 

Friday, May 5 Beach Day and Dance Party 

 

Last year only approximately 30% of our families completed the survey and this year we would like to see close to a 100% completion rate. You have already exceeded my expectations with approximately a 75% completion rate. This means that Friday, May 5 we will celebrate with a Beach Day and Dance Party. All students are encouraged to wear beach attire and we will allot time during the day to dance like no one is watching!   With about 50 more responses, we will provide popsicles and Ms. Ware and I will dye our hair with a POP of color(s)! 

Quarterly Review, Wednesday, May 17

We will be hosting our quarterly review on Wednesday, May 17 at 7:45 am. This event will be held before school and lasts approximately an hour 7:45 - 8:45. This is an open invitation and a great opportunity to hear about the amazing work that has been going on with the Math, Literacy, SEL, and Global committees at Wiley. We will discuss progress toward our school-wide goals along with next steps as we close out the year. A platform for questions and the information provided will be shared after the meeting as time will be limited with arrival beginning at 8:45. Cecilia Rawlins Fund

 

The Cecilia Rawlins Fund, named for a beloved former Wiley principal, serves the Wiley community by addressing hunger and other critical needs for Wiley students and families. CRF funds the Backpack Buddies program at Wiley, which ensures all students have food resources when not at school, currently supporting more than 50 Wiley students. We supplement that program with direct food assistance to families during winter and summer breaks. We also provide one-time financial assistance for families experiencing emergency needs such as housing, utilities, and transportation. Meeting all of these needs requires approximately $40,000 per year.

 

We rely on generous support from donors to achieve this mission. If you are able, please consider donating to CRF either as a one-time donation or as an ongoing, monthly 'sponsor.'  Donate here. 2023 Teacher Appreciation Week

May 1-5 - THIS WEEK!

Let's celebrate our fantastic teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week! The PTA has planned a week-long series of events to honor teachers and staff each day of the week.

* “We Cereal-sly Love You” cereal bar on Monday,
* Favorite Things Day on Tuesday,
* Neomonde lunch on Wednesday,
* School Supply Pop Up Shop on Thursday, and
* student Thank You cards, flowers, and a Gift Card Raffle on Friday!

If you’d like to help, here are some opportunities for family participation:

 

Monday, 5/1 - Participate in our annual gift card raffle by dropping off your gift card at the main 

office or to your child’s Homeroom Teacher by Monday, May 1. 

Tuesday, 5/2 - Send in a small treat from the Teachers’ Favorite Things list! Each homeroom is 

adopting two or three non-homeroom teachers to make sure everyone is 

recognized!

Wednesday, 5/3 - Drop off donations of fun school supplies or purchase wishlist items. 

 

Friday, 5/5 - Have your student make Thank You cards and bring along with flowers for their homeroom and adopted teachers.

Get Your 2022-23 Yearbook Today

Final sale date - May 5 (Friday)

 

Purchase your yearbook today! You can also purchase a book to donate to help make sure there is a yearbook for every student. Yearbook sales end on May 5th and the books will be delivered to students in early June.

Grab your friends and plan to enjoy lunch or dinner at Carolina Ale House on May 2, 3 or 4! Mention Wiley and 15% will be donated to the Wiley Elementary Foundation! Kids 10 and under eat for only 99 cents on Tuesday nights (dine-in only). It’s just three blocks from school at 500 Glenwood Ave. 

Wiley’s new Piedmont Prairie

 

You may notice something new next to the upper playground.  I am excited to announce that
we've added a Piedmont Prairie to our campus!  The Prairie supports native wildlife and enhances local biodiversity, while improving soil health and reducing erosion. Students will enjoy unique learning opportunities about native plants and wildlife, fostering environmental stewardship while supporting Wiley’s magnet theme and alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
