Black Children’s Book Week
Monday, February 27 - Friday March 3
Join the Media Center for Black Children's Book Week, a global celebration of Black children and the people who ensure Black children are represented in books and other children’s media. Our Media Specialist, Mrs. Bryant, will host a variety of events throughout the week, including a book tasting, where students will sample a variety of books written by Black authors. Help us achieve our goal of donating these books to students by making a purchase from the Media Center Wish List.
Single Subject Acceleration (SSA) - What is SSA?
SSA is the practice of placing a student in a higher-grade level in ONE subject area. This type of acceleration is for the purpose of providing access to appropriately challenging learning opportunities in either math OR English Language Arts. Only students who are currently enrolled and attending a WCPSS school during the open nomination and testing window are eligible to be considered for SSA.
How can I learn more about the SSA process and what it entails?
There will be both an in-person session and a virtual session available. We will also provide a recording of the session in case you cannot attend either session.
Informational Sessions for Wiley:
Virtual Session: Wednesday, March 8th, 2023 from 11:30-12:15

Parents, please continue to be patient with us as we deal late buses. Moving forward, classroom teachers will communicate late buses via talking points as soon as possible. When a bus is late you are not required to provide transportation, however, you are expected to communicate transportation changes. When it is communicated that a bus is late if you wish to provide transportation you should either contact the office or communicate this with your child’s teacher via talking points before 3:45. After 3:45 all transportation should be made by contacting the front office before 4:30. The only time parents will be expected to pick up their child is in the event that a bus has been canceled.
Absences and Tardies
Per policy, we will send home letters for excessive tardies and absences. Five or more tardies and unexcused absences (three, six, and ten days) will result in a district letter sent to your address on file. The letter is intended to notify you of missed instruction and to make you aware of the days absent on file. As a reminder, In the event of an absence, you should do one of the following: 1) provide a written note to the classroom teacher upon the child’s return OR 2) send an email to the classroom teacher AND data manager (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Excused Absences for Religious/Educational Reasons
As a reminder, we ask that you submit requests for excused educational or religious absences well in advance. All requests should be submitted at least two to three weeks prior to the requested dates. According to board policy, excused absences for educational reasons are authorized for educational experiences that are comparable to school academic experiences. The intent of the experience should be educational from the outset and an academic assignment (i.e journal entry, reflection, presentation, images, project, etc.) will be required as verification of the educational experience. Family trips and vacations that were not designed, initially, to be educational will not be excused (i.e. amusement parks, family visits, popular cities). The form linked here should be used to request the excused dates prior to the absence.

Wiley Fun Run
Promotions - March 22-30
Event Day - Thursday, March 30
The PTA’s largest fundraising event of the year will kick off on March 22nd! The 9th annual Fun Run raises funds for things like classroom supplies, teacher trainings, learning aids, educational software, and other things that support our students and teachers.
The Fun Run is a fitness-based fundraiser that requires no selling. The program is pledge-based, meaning the students will gather monetary pledges for the laps they run on Fun Run day, March 30th. All fitness levels and abilities are welcomed and supported -- all students will receive ‘credit’ for running 35 laps. Check out more about the Fun Run here.
A big thank you to our business community supporters from last year’s event!
