Principal Message 2-13-23
Black History Month
As we continue to celebrate Black History month it is important to remember that the contributions provided by African Americans are a part of American history and should be acknowledged throughout the year. There are not enough days in February to account for the insurmountable accomplishments and triumphs of black people. So as you take a moment to honor an African American, continue this practice beyond February as you recognize the sacrifices and victories of people of color and begin the hard but necessary conversations about race.

A Century of Memories
We are very excited to be celebrating 100 years of Wiley on St. Marys Street and are diligently planning for ways to recognize this momentous occasion. One way you can help is by sharing this bit.ly with anyone who has a Wiley story or fond memory. We will share this questionnaire on various platforms as we collect a Century of Wiley memories. Share your memories! bit.ly/3Dbnc7V
Singing Stars - Pieces of Gold Performance
Congratulations to our Singing Stars! Wiley’s Singing Stars will perform on March 1 at 7 pm at the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium Center for Performing Arts. The fourth and fifth-grade students from our music elective have worked hard and auditioned to secure a spot on this special night for the arts along with with other talented students from across our district.
Late Buses
Parents, please continue to be patient with us as we deal late buses. Moving forward, classroom teachers will communicate late buses via talking points as soon as possible. When a bus is late you are not required to provide transportation, however, you are expected to communicate transportation changes. When it is communicated that a bus is late if you wish to provide transportation you should either contact the office or communicate this with your child’s teacher via talking points before 3:45. After 3:45 all transportation should be made by contacting the front office before 4:30. The only time parents will be expected to pick up their child is in the event that a bus has been canceled.
Absences and Tardies
Per policy, we will send home letters for excessive tardies and absences. Five or more tardies and unexcused absences (three, six, and ten days) will result in a district letter sent to your address on file. The letter is intended to notify you of missed instruction and to make you aware of the days absent on file. As a reminder, In the event of an absence, you should do one of the following: 1) provide a written note to the classroom teacher upon the child’s return OR 2) send an email to the classroom teacher AND data manager (ncwise620@wcpss.net).
Excused Absences for Religious/Educational Reasons
As a reminder, we ask that you submit requests for excused educational or religious absences well in advance. All requests should be submitted at least two to three weeks prior to the requested dates. According to board policy, excused absences for educational reasons are authorized for educational experiences that are comparable to school academic experiences. The intent of the experience should be educational from the outset and an academic assignment (i.e journal entry, reflection, presentation, images, project, etc.) will be required as verification of the educational experience. Family trips and vacations that were not designed, initially, to be educational will not be excused (i.e. amusement parks, family visits, popular cities). The form linked here should be used to request the excused dates prior to the absence.

Wiley Fun Run
Promotions - March 22-30
Event Day - Thursday, March 30
The PTA’s largest fundraising event of the year will kick off on March 22nd! The 9th annual Fun Run raises funds for things like classroom supplies, teacher trainings, learning aids, educational software, and other things that support our students and teachers.
The Fun Run is a fitness-based fundraiser that requires no selling. The program is pledge-based, meaning the students will gather monetary pledges for the laps they run on Fun Run day, March 30th. All fitness levels and abilities are welcomed and supported -- all students will receive ‘credit’ for running 35 laps. Check out more about the Fun Run here. A big thank you for supporters from the business community for support last year!
The PTA is looking for parent-owned or local businesses to be t-shirt sponsors! Know someone who may be interested? Check out and share our Fun Run Community Partner Sponsors site.
