Family Time Makes a Difference
Being involved and staying involved with your child makes a difference. Simple acts of
parental engagement are key ways to helping youth make smart, healthy choices.
-
Frequent family dinners- provide routine opportunities to check in with your child
-
This means making time for dinner with youth with no distractions – that means no electronic devices.
-
Parents who aren’t able to schedule frequent family dinners can use other opportunities for conversation, like bedtime or breakfast, as long as they make it a routine to talk to their child about what is going on in his or her life.
Research has found that youth who have frequent family encounters (five or more a week):
-
Perform better at school
-
Are more likely to turn to their parents with a serious problem
There are resources for parents to help support and promote parental engagement and ideas for celebrating a “Family Day” at www.casafamilyday.org. I am here to help. I can be reached by calling the school at 919-856-7723 or via e-mail: nomonte@wcpss.net
Considering gifts of appreciation for teachers or staff this holiday season? The PTA is excited to help make your holiday gifting much easier!
GiftCrowd is an online tool that makes it easy to send gifts to any or all teachers and staff in just a few clicks.
Simply make your gifts by December 22nd at 8am and our teachers and staff will receive an email with their gifts and greetings. They will then choose how to redeem their gifts into one or more of hundreds of types of gift cards, including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Athleta, and more.
Any gifts to teams will be divided up equally among the members of that team. The tool is free for both the gift giver and the recipient.

Paving the Way - Legacy Bricks
Do you know about Wiley's Legacy Bricks? These bricks not only create a welcoming walkway to Wiley’s front door but they celebrate students past and present, teachers and staff, community members, and generous local businesses. Each brick is $150 and can be engraved with a message up to 50 characters. A brick order form is active now until December 31 for early spring installation.
Funds raised by brick sales go to the Wiley Elementary Foundation which works to supplement teacher and staff salaries beyond what the county and state provide.
