Principal's Message 8-29-22
Welcome Back!
Happy First Day of School! Wiley teachers are excited to get Back to the Future and engage our students in loads of learning and engagement.
Please be patient with us and Wake County as we iron out all the wrinkles that come along with the first weeks of school. This includes carpool, buses, and dismissal. Weekly Wiley communication will be sent out each Monday morning, except in the event of holidays and no school.
We will spend the first weeks of school practicing and learning new routines and procedures. This means that it is just as important that your child is present and on time. We understand that it will take a while for all of us to get back in the habit of doing school, so it is important for your child to get a good night's sleep so that we are in class and ready to learn by 9:15 am.
The Wiley Way
This year we will introduce our new and improved Wiley Way. Each teacher will spend the week teaching and discussing what it means to be a part of the Wiley family and follow the Wiley Way. Help us do this work by talking to your child about what it means to Work Collaboratively, Act with Empathy, Yield to Kindness, and Respect ourselves, each other, and property. This will be part of our focus this year as we continue to engage in conversations around creating future-ready learners.
Kindergarten Meet the Teacher
My apologies for any confusion that my correspondence has caused with Kindergarten Meet the Teacher dates. This week we will begin our staggered entry for our kindergarten students. Kindergarten students will attend only one day this week before meeting their homeroom teacher at the Kindergarten Meet the Teacher event on Friday, September 2, from 11 - 12. The dates for Staggered Entry students are as follows, based on the child’s last name:
Monday, August 29 (A - G)
Tuesday, August 30 (H - M)
Wednesday, August 31 (N -T )
Thursday, September 1 (T- Z )
Friday, September 2 (Meet The Teacher)
Student Phone Policy
This year we are implementing a new phone policy for all students. Cell phones are not to be out or used on campus by students unless authorized by an adult. If a cell phone is out and seen by an adult, the student will first be instructed to put the cell phone away. If the cell phone is not put away or seen again by the adult, it will be taken and returned at the end of the day. The parent or guardian will also be contacted and informed of the situation. If the cell phone is seen a third time after the parent or guardian has been contacted, the phone will be collected and delivered to an administrator. An adult will be expected to pick up the cell phone at his/her convenience. We will continue to communicate this policy throughout the year.
Elective Registration Google Form
Don’t forget to register your child for an elective! This year, we are asking families to only select their elective choices for quarters one and two in the fall. We will hold a second elective registration in the winter for quarters three and four. Use the link above to submit your choices. Email our Magnet Coordinator, Claire Sullivan (csullivan@wcpss.net) with questions.

Carpool
We will continue to use carpool numbers for the 22 -23 school year. Each family will receive only two carpool tags. You should give the tags to the individuals who will do pick-up most often. Carpool tags will be distributed throughout the week. Please be patient with us as we complete this process.
Early Release
The district has assigned several early release dates for the 22 - 23 school year. On early release days, we will end school 2 hours early. As a result, dismissal will begin at 1:45 pm. All early dismissal days are indicated on the school calendar, with the letters ER. Our first early release date is this Friday, September 2, 2022.
Consider supporting members of our Wiley community in 2022-23. The cost to sponsor a BackPack Buddy for the school year is $162.50. Every donation helps! To donate, visit our website, www.rawlinsfund.org and click donate. If you are interested in getting involved in this important work, we are also seeking new board members. We are particularly in need of members with fundraising or accounting experience, though all are welcome! Please email ceciliarawlinsfund@gmail.com if you are interested.
