HGES Purple Star Award 2024
Holly Grove Elementary is proud to announce that it has received the prestigious Purple Star Award for the 2023-24 school year from the N.C. Department of Public Instruction. This award recognizes schools that demonstrate a significant commitment to supporting students and families connected to our nation's military.
To earn this distinction, schools must fulfill several criteria, including designating a staff person as the point of contact for military families, understanding the impact of deployments on military-connected children, and conducting school-wide activities that appreciate and raise awareness of military-connected students and families.
Holly Grove Elementary is one of eighteen schools in the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) to receive this honor. It joins twelve other first-time winners, including Apex High, Farmington Woods Elementary, Garner Magnet High, Herbert Akins Road Middle, Holly Springs High, Lockhart Elementary, Lincoln Heights Magnet Elementary, Pleasant Union Elementary, Reedy Creek Magnet Middle, Sanderson High, and Willow Spring High.
Since the Purple Star Award was initiated in 2019, it has been highly regarded by military families and school communities. This recognition is particularly valued for addressing the unique challenges faced by military-connected students, including frequent relocations and the need for consistent support.
The award ceremony, held last week in Raleigh, was attended by Superintendent Robert Taylor, WCPSS Director of School Social Work Michael Pesce, and Dawn White, a school social worker and member of the WCPSS Military Connected Committee.
Holly Grove Elementary is honored to be a part of this distinguished group and remains committed to supporting military families. Congratulations to all Purple Star Award recipients and heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff members who work tirelessly to meet the needs of military-connected students and their families.
