Welcome to another great week at Holly Grove!

We are a few weeks into the new school year and we are excited to introduce the Positivity Project to our students. Tracks 1 and 2 will begin the character education lessons during our Morning Meetings by learning about the #otherpeoplematter concept. You can learn more here: https://posproject.org/our-story/

We are also excited to have our students participating in a morning news program called "Hedgeline News." Ask your child all about this great addition to our morning routine!

To ensure your child's safety, please note that students are not allowed on the campus prior to the 8:45 AM bell. We do not have staff available to supervise them outside. Welcome to another great week at Holly Grove! As we settle into the 19-20 school year (and welcome back our Track 4 families!), I wanted to share some safety reminders:

    • please have your child enter and exit the vehicle on the right side during carpool
    • please also display your carpool tag the entire time you are in the carpool loop- if you forget your tag, please park and come inside to obtain a temporary tag and then rejoin the line
    • students are not to arrive on campus prior to 8:45 AM
    • bike riders should always wear a helmet
    • if you have not returned your walker agreement form, please do so ASAP. Morgan Park families, we are excited to offer you walker status as well. Students must beaccompanied by an adult (as they must cross a major road) and will dismiss in the afternoon from the Media Center door. It is not permissible to park in parking lot and walk to your car.

Thank you to all of our track 1, 2 and 3 families who braved the wet weather on Tuesday to join us for Open House. We hope you found it an informative evening and we are grateful to partner with you to ensure your child has a successful year! Track 4- mark your calendars for Tuesday, August 13th from 6:00-8:00 PM.

Speaking of dismissal- we have decided to create a more efficient and safe way to dismiss students and we are excited to share our new dismissal system with you! All students now remain in their classrooms until their method of transportation is displayed on the TV screen. If you would like to view the screen in real-time to plan your afternoon accordingly (we begin populating it around 3:30 PM), please bookmark this link https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1OZ3CUfx2houI81Wht587jnpBSKvNznoK8Cn6VVZu2eU/edit?usp=sharing . You'll be able to see when your child's bus and/or daycare van has arrived to campus. You will also be able to see the placement of your child's number in the carpool line and the color hedgie they have been assigned to. The link can also be found on the main Holly Grove page under "Quick Links",  "HGES Dismissal".

Also new for 19-20 is "Hedgie Pride Friday's"- students are encouraged to wear their HGES spirit wear on Friday's and the class with the best percentage of participation will get to keep a stuffed hedgehog in their room for the week and will have a sign displayed on their door for bragging rights. Kindergarten students are encouraged to wear purple or orange until they have the opportunity to purchase spirit wear and/or earn their laps for Holly Grove shirts.

For our friends on tracks 1, 2 and 3 that means 10 days (see you all on July 9th!) and for our track 4 students, we hope you have a great track out and we look forward to seeing you back on July 29th.

Staying safe this summer is as easy as 1, 2, 3-

1- wear sunscreen when you are outside

2- always wear a helmet when you are riding your bike

3-stay hydrated- drink lots of water when you are in the sun

Have a great break- read a good book and moderate the video games/TV!

Parents, please note a transportation adjustment to the Holly Grove campus for the 19-20 school year. In collaboration with the HSPD, left turns out of the parking lot onto Avent Ferry will not be permitted during AM/PM carpool. We appreciate your support as we work to increase safety and efficacy during arrival and dismissal.
