The Newbery and Jr. Printz clubs are groups of students and teachers who have a passion for reading and discussion of what we read.
Our purpose is to read as many of the strongly reviewed young adult books published in the calendar year and, through a series of discussions and voting, decide on the most distinguished books of the year to receive the coveted AMS Newbery medals.
We model our club closely to the actual process of the ALA Newbery committee. Using the same criteria for selecting distinguished books, we start reading and meeting in April and continue through the summer and fall until we have our final meetings and vote in January around the same time as the announcement of the ALA award winners.
