Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Kristina Karrass
I am very excited to return to Wiley Elementary School this year to continue teaching German to our students. Prior to teaching at Wiley, I taught German for several year to preschoolers and elementary school students at CarolinaKinder, where I am organizing the Lesson Program. I am a native of Germany and grew up in the “golden” city of Mainz, where I earned my MA in Social Anthropology, African Philology and American Studies at the Johannes Gutenberg University. After earning my degree, I lived in Spain for six years with my husband and when he was offered a postdoc position an NC State, we moved our family to Raleigh, NC. We have a son and a daughter and a very crazy mutt named Fred.
Learning languages and through these languages about other cultures and ways of thinking has always been a passion of mine and I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to help Wiley’s students gain access to a whole new world through learning a new language at such a young age. Teaching electives provides me the opportunity to integrate the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals in my curriculum. I wrote my master’s thesis on the 2015 UN Millennium Development Goals and am excited about working at a school with an international studies program. The goal I will be focusing on this year is goal 12, Responsible Consumption and Production. I believe it is our personal responsibility to examine the impact our own behavior has on the planet and make adjustments within our capabilities to help reduce our carbon footprint and waste production.
