Lesson 1: Who are You? Objectives:
- Students will know the purpose of SEL.
- Students will identify themselves and learn something about their classmates.
- Students will explore and share ideas/images that represent them as individuals.
- Students will break down personal space boundaries and develop teamwork skills.
Lesson 2: Clarifying Values Objectives:
- Students will analyze how their values influence the decisions they make.
- Students will demonstrate how their values influence their decision making.
Lesson 3: Avoiding Stereotypes part 1 Objectives:
- Students consider an analogy in order to understand the concept of stereotyping.
- Students define “stereotyping.”
Lesson 4: Avoiding Stereotypes part 2 Objectives:
- Students analyze the effects of applying stereotypes to people.
- Students identify ways to avoid stereotyping others.
Lesson 5: Communication Skills
- Students will recognize the different ways messages are sent verbally and nonverbally.
- Students will analyze the importance of being consistent with the message they communicate.
