Return to Headlines

June 11, 2021

Dear RMS Parents and Families,

It’s finally here…the final week of the 2020 – 2021 school year!  I think we are all excited about celebrating that!  What a year it has been, but we have made it.  We (students, staff, and parents) have been so resilient and we are proud of everyone’s efforts!  It will be a very busy final week of school so please take a close look at all the information below.

1. Final Classroom Assignments: Please talk to your child about getting any final assignments, missing work, and/or corrected assignments completed ASAP.  The grading window will close early next week.  It is the end of the year so no extensions can be provided past next Friday.

2. Report Cards: Report cards will be mailed home the week after the final day of school.  Please be on the lookout for them as we get closer to that date.

If you received a letter after first semester that your child was at-risk for retention, you will receive a final decision letter with their report card.  We are unable to make a final decision until we can review their final 4th quarter grades, which will impact their grade final grade for the year.

3. Hotspots – Please Return: Now that we are nearing the end of the year Wake County Public School System has requested that all hotspots are turned in no later than June 21st. They have informed us that all hotspots will be disconnected at the end of the school year.

The hotspots may be brought to the front office, Monday-Friday between 7:30 am and 3:45 pm if your student is in virtual academy. The hotspots may be returned to the media center if your child is attending school in person.

4. Back to school dates: We will host our Back-to-School nights for the 2021 – 2022 school on the following dates.  Specific times will be shared soon, but it will include a time for parents who are working during the day.

Please note that the Track 4 Back-to-School night is scheduled for later in July.  This will help us to continue to provide some social distancing to ensure everyone’s safety.  We look forward to beginning to resume normal activities and events, but want to ensure we are being safe during that transition.

Rising 6th Grade Track 1 & 3: Tuesday, July 6th

Rising 7th and 8 Track 1 & 3: Wednesday, July 7th

Rising 6th – 8th Grade Track 4: Thursday, July 28th

5. Student/Parent handbook: We are finalizing our Student/Parent Handbook for the 2021 – 2022 school year and will provide that as soon as it is completed.

6. PE Uniforms: Next year, we will return to the use of PE Uniforms.  While PE Uniforms are no longer required, we strongly encourage you to order one.  If students do not order a uniform, they are still expected to dress out for class.

Uniforms can be ordered by clicking here.  This will take you to the Johnson Lambe website.  Use our school code: RMSPE16.  From there, you will be able to place your order.  Orders will be shipped directly to school and we will pass them out to students as they arrive.

7. Virtual Academy Awards Pick-Up: All VA students (6th – 8th grade) who receive an award next week should make plans to come by on Thursday morning between 9:00 am – 11:00 am for a drive thru pick of items.

8. Yearbooks: Our 2020 – 2021 school yearbook has arrived!  If you have ordered one for your child, this is how they will be delivered.

In-Person Students: Teachers will pass these out on Wednesday afternoon.

Virtual Academy Students: You are welcome to come to school next Thursday morning between 9:00 – 11:00 for pick-up.

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Thaddeus Sherman
