Dear RMS Parents and Families,
It’s been another busy and exciting week at RMS. Please remember to read my weekly messages closely because they will contain a lot of important information and reminders as we get closer to the end of the year.
1. Updates regarding testing for VA Students: Thank you to all of VA families who have completed the link regarding testing participation. If you have not yet completed it, please do so as soon as possible so we can plan accordingly. As a reminder, if you are not comfortable with your child coming to school to take the EOGs, they will not be penalized.
You can complete the form at this link. Please reach out to our testing coordinator, Amy Walter(awalter@wcpss.net) should you have any additional questions about testing.
2. Next Wednesday – RL Day: Next Wednesday is a district identified Remote Learning Day. Students will not attend school and there will be no live instruction online. It is an asynchronous day and students should be completing assigned work. Teachers will be communicating to parents and students what the expectations are for the day.
3.
2021 – 2022 Virtual Academy: Registration for VA for next school year closes on May 2nd. If you are interested in considering this option, you can find more information by clicking here. The registration link can be found by clicking here.
4.
Yearbooks: Don’t forget to upload a picture of your child for the yearbook. You can learn more about taking a proper photo and uploading it by clicking here.
The cost of the yearbook will be $20 and you ordering is now open. Click here to order your 2020 – 2021 RMS Yearbook. Once on the Strawbridge website click on “order pictures and yearbooks” and then enter our code: FMYB110177
Ordering is open until May 31st. All yearbooks will be shipped to the school and we anticipate having these toward the final weeks of school. More information to come on delivery and pick up (for VA students).
5. In Person Students Not Feeling Well: Please let your child know that if they are at school and not feeling well, they need to first inform their teacher and we will bring them to the office. At that time, they can call home. We have students texting or calling parents to come get them and we are not aware. Due to the pandemic, there are certain protocol we must follow for responding to a student who is not feeling well. Please have them text or call you AFTER they’ve informed their teacher.
6. National Junior Honor Society for Current 7thGraders: National Junior Honor Society applications for current 7th graders will be accepted in the first quarter of 8th grade. Information for students and parents will be shared at the beginning of the new school year.
7. End of Year Awards Ceremonies: While conditions surrounding the pandemic continue to improve, we are still operating under current restrictions in place. We are finalizing plans for our ceremonies and will share more information soon.
At the present time, we are planning for 6th and 7thgrade ceremonies to be for students only. For the 8thgrade ceremony, each student will be provided two tickets for parents or family to attend. Ceremonies for those in VA (all grades) will be an online ceremony, followed by a designated time to pick up any awards and/or certificates.
8. 8th Graders - The Vernon Malone College & Career Academy: They have re-opened the application process! Vernon Malone College and Career Academy offers unique, hands-on programs, and four programs still have seats available for rising 9th grade students: Cosmetology, Facility Maintenance Technology, Nurse Aide, and Welding.
Students are able to learn skills in these areas while earning credits for college. If you are interested in applying, please reach out to the contact person at the bottom of this flyer.
9. PowerSchools: Beginning Monday, PS will be completely updated and reflect current / 4th quarter classes and schedules. We appreciate your patience as we finished 3rd quarter report cards and schedule change updates based on the return of students to campus. After Monday, if you see any discrepancies, please let teachers know.
10. Teacher appreciation week: We are looking forward to celebrating our amazing teachers next week! A huge thanks to everyone who made donations to the PTA. Our teachers are in for a special treat next week.
11.
PTA: The PTA is seeking a small number of parents who will sign up for membership as soon as possible. While it is the end of the year, we currently do not have enough official members needed to vote on the proposed budget for next year or to nominate and elect new board members. Please consider joining the PTA and being a part of helping them prepare for next year. Signing up is simple and you can do it by clicking here.
Sincerely,
Thaddeus Sherman
