Return to Headlines

February 5, 2021

Dear RMS Parents and Families,

I hope everyone has had a great week.  It’s hard to believe that we will be going into our third week of the 3rd quarter next week, but things are going well and we are so proud of how hard students are working.  Here are the latest updates for this week:

1. Plan B Returning to School: On Tuesday, the school board voted for Plan B students to return to the building for in-person instruction beginning Monday, February 15th.  The previous cohort calendar that was shared remains accurate.

This means that Cohort 2 / B will return for in-person instruction on February 15th.  Cohort 3 / C will return on February 22nd and Cohort 1 / A will return on March 1st. When students are not at school for in-person instruction they should continue to participate virtually / remotely, following our current schedule.  You can find the cohort calendar by going here:

If you are a student new to Plan B (participated in VA first semester) who needs bus transportation, please be sure that you have completed the required bus attestation form, which can be found here.  You must also request transportation. If you need any assistance please contact Mrs. Daeke, our Registrar.  Her email address is ldaeke@wcpss.net

2. Clubs: We are excited to begin clubs next Wednesday.  Between now and next Tuesday, the club advisor will be sending a Google Classroom invitation to students.  Students should keep an eye out for that email and then join that classroom.  The Google Meet for that club will be included in their Club Google Classroom.

Please be sure to let your child know they may not share these codes with any other students at RMS and especially other schools.  Any student sharing a code will be removed from clubs.

Remind students to be patient the first week as there may be some kinks that need to be worked out or students who need to be added to a club.  We are excited to get started and will help students get to where they need to be for their club.

3. Track change request form: The window to request a track change for next school year has now opened.  You can find the form and directions at the top of our school webpage.  This window will be open for one week.  If you are new to RMS this year and not previously on a year-round calendar, please do not fill out this form.  You will be receiving another form in the coming weeks to rank your track preferences.

Please know that track changes are limited, especially at this time with the uncertainty that lies ahead.  Submitting a change request does not mean it will be approved.  We will review all requests and will follow up with you when a final decision has been made.

4. Career Connections 2021:  Career and Technical Education will be celebrating CTE Month by hosting Career Connections 2021 on our Asynchronous Day February 24, 2021 for students grades 8-12. The virtual event using Booth Central will kick-off at 9:00 am with a wide selection of 30-minute career readiness workshops hosted by WCPSS Career Development Coordinators.

From 11:00-12:00, students will have the opportunity to meet virtually with industry professionals during an Industry Fair showcasing the 16 Career Clusters. This is a great opportunity for students to ask questions of someone in a career of their interest.  For more information, contact our School’s Career Development Coordinator- Mrs. Goshay(cgoshay@wcpss.net)

Students will need to be logged into their Wake-ID to sign up for this event. To register, click HERE

Sincerely,
