Principal's Message January 24, 2025 (Spring Photos, RHS Reminder, Make-Up day, Fundraiser)
Hello Patriot Families!
Wow, what an interesting week! Holiday, Delays, Early Release, and No School days all in one week! I wonder if that has ever happened before? I hope everyone stayed warm, safe, and enjoyed the snow days!
Today, track 3 tracks out and they will return on Monday, February 17. We welcome back track 4, it has been a long time, hope you all had a restful break and are ready to work hard for the remainder of the year!
Due to the weather, we moved our HMS Spelling Bee to Wednesday, January 29. Good luck candidates!
Save the date: Strawbridge Spring Photos on February 27, 2025!
A photographer from Strawbridge Studios will be at your school on 2/27/2025 to photograph your spring pictures. Click here for ordering information.
Reproductive Health & Safety Lessons (7th and 8th grade)
A letter was sent Sunday through school messenger to inform parents of the upcoming 7th and 8th grade Reproductive Health and Safety Lessons. Families have until Friday, January 31, 2025 to request their child "opt-out" of the lesson, but the request must be put in writing to the healthful living teacher and principal. Click here for more information.
Tracks 1 and 3 Make-Up Day!
Due to tracks 1 and 3 missing 1.5 days due to HVAC issues and the weather days (hurricane and snow), HMS students on tracks 1 and 3 are short instructional hours, therefore, there is a make-up day planned for Saturday, February 22. It will be a half day.
Athletics:
- Thursday, January 30th is our next home basketball game against Wendell. The boys' basketball team will tip off at 4 pm. The girls' basketball game will start 10 minutes after the end of the first game. PTA will be selling concessions. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time on GoFan (https://gofan.co/app/school/NC68157) or at the gate for $6. Come out and support the Patriots!
- Last Thursday's basketball game against Zebulon has been rescheduled for February 11. Mark your calendars to help us pack the gym to cheer on our Patriots!
- Now is the time to start signing up for Spring Sports! We offer boys/girls track, softball, and boys soccer during the Spring. Please do not wait until the last minute. The deadline to sign up is February 14. To make sure you are eligible and 100% cleared to try out, read through the information on our HMS Athletic Website: https://wakecountyathleticzone.com/heritage-middle/tryout-information/. Fundraiser!
Have you ever been to a basketball game and couldn't hear the national anthem? Perhaps you couldn't hear the starting lineup? Or even tell where the voice was coming from? You've probably even seen our Athletic Director run through the gym to stop music from playing during the actual game. If you've noticed any of these things, it's because the HMS sound system in the gym is over 20 years old and it's time to upgrade! It still plays CDs and cassette tapes, so you know it's time for an upgrade!
The plan is to install 4 brand new wave speakers in each corner of the gym and 2 sub woofers to allow for a more complete and fuller sound. We will also add a 1500-watt amp to help manage the sound. The new system will also be Bluetooth enabled so we can control the music and microphones right from the scorer's table! The total cost is approximately $12,000.
The HMS PTA is donating $9,000 towards this total, but needs some help to get us to our goal. Please consider donating as all students and families will benefit from this upgrade. Click here to donate: https://hms-gym-sound-system-fundraiser.cheddarup.com. Check out this Flyer for more information!
As always, any questions or concerns, please let us know. We hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Yours,
Amy Light, Principal
