Principal's Message January 10, 2025 (HS on the Horizon, 6th-grade field trip, spring tryouts, spirit night at Chipotle)
Hello Patriot Families!
I hope everyone stays safe out there this weekend, due to the weather, but can find time to enjoy it as well. Coming up in January: High School on the Horizon presentation January 14, spirit night at Chipotle on Jan 15, home basketball game January 16, MLK Jr Holiday on Monday, January 20 so no school, our school-wide Spelling Bee is January 23, and track 3 tracks out January 24. Track 4 returns Monday, January 27.
8th-grade families:
Our High School on the Horizon information session will be Tuesday, January 14 from 6-7 PM in our auditorium. During this presentation families will learn about important registration timelines, course registration procedures, graduation requirements, class recommendation guidelines, and more. All this information will be found in our HMS 8th Grade Information website. Any additional questions, please reach out to our 8th-grade counselor, Mr. Febres at pfebres@wcpss.net.
For those interested in Millbrook HS, they are having an open house that night. See flyer for details and RSVP, if you plan to attend. Our apologies for both happening on the same evening.
6th-grade field trip information:
All 6th grade students will have the opportunity to visit Marbles iMax to view an Ocean 3D documentary and engage in the interactive lab. Track 1 will attend on March 5th and Tracks 3 and 4 on March 19th. The cost is $16.00 per student to be paid online by February 5, 2025. Please see this document for instructions on how to pay through school cash online. All forms were sent home with Track 1 and 3 students on 1/9/2025. Track 4 students will receive paperwork on their day back-January 27, 2025. Contact Mrs. Cynthia Mills at cmills5@wcpss.net with additional questions.
Athletics:
Thursday, January 16th is our next home basketball game against River Bend. The boys' basketball team will tip off at 4 pm. The girls' basketball game will start 10 minutes after the end of the first game. PTA will be selling concessions. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time on GoFan (https://gofan.co/app/school/NC68157) or at the gate for $6. Come out and support the Patriots!
Now is the time to start signing up for Spring Sports! We offer boys/girls track, softball, and boys soccer during the Spring. Please do not wait until the last minute. The deadline to sign up is February 14. To make sure you are eligible and 100% cleared to try out, read through the information on our HMS Athletic Website: https://wakecountyathleticzone.com/heritage-middle/tryout-information/. There are two main parts to signing up:
- Parents, please make sure all parts of Dragonfly are completed and approved. You must use the WCPSS-approved forms. For physicals, you can go to any urgent care to have them completed. You do not need to see your PCP to complete them.
- Students, please complete the Ticket to Play at https://forms.gle/9Hv6Bmd6CSC1JkgK7. If you do not, we will not be able to check on your Dragonfly information.
