Good afternoon, this is Steve Mares, Interim Principal of Heritage Middle School, with a Special Message for Tuesday, September 10^th. A copy of this message will be posted on our school website (https://www.wcpss.net/heritagems) and emailed and texted to our school families.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:

First, know that all students are safe.

Earlier today, students reported that they had heard a threat against our school during a class. We take all threats to our school seriously. As soon as we were made aware of this information, we immediately investigated and identified the student. The student admitted to making the comment as a joke. Following an investigation by the school administration, it was determined that there was no actual threat to the school.

Please make your child aware that making a threat of any kind has serious consequences, including the possibility of criminal prosecution and suspension from school.

Students should always feel comfortable telling a trusted adult about anything that causes them concern. I appreciate the students who reported this information to school staff and their families. Please know that you can report any safety concerns to an administrator or our anonymous tip line, at (919) 856-1911.

Know that we will continue to take every measure to ensure the safety of our students.
