This is Mrs. Nealy, your Wakelon Principal with our weekly updates!
Student T-Shirts: Wakelon is excited to announce that this year we are partnering with the PTA to sponsor free Wakelon t-shirts for all students. These t-shirts will be worn during school spirit weeks, field trips, field day, and school-wide assemblies. Please look in their folders and complete the t-shirt form. The form must be completed and returned to school by Tuesday, September 17th.
Book Fair: The fall Scholastic book fair will arrive at Wakelon Elementary School on Monday, September 16th. Students will preview the fair on Monday & Tuesday. The fair will be open for purchases on Wednesday & Thursday. Friday is a teacher workday, and the fair will be open for purchases until noon. For additional book fair information, and to volunteer during the book fair, please visit this link: https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/wakelonelementaryschool1. A paper flyer will be sent home with students on Monday.
NOTE: If you had remaining funds from a previous book fair, you should have received an email from Scholastic to transfer funds.
School Support Needed: The Wakelon ES PTA is seeking your support with a school enhancement for carpool. Our goal is to provide the school with colored umbrellas and umbrella stands. This enhancement will protect students and staff from undesirable weather such as very hot heat and rain. This enhancement will also support the smooth transition of students from the school to their cars in the afternoon, which will help carpool to move more efficiently. We have created an Amazon Wishlist with the desired stands and umbrellas. Please consider purchasing an item from the Wakelon ES Carpool Enhancement wish list. We are requesting that all items be purchased by Friday, October 4, 2024. Please contact Conswalia Chambers-Banks at swalia_chambers@hotmail.com with questions about this project.

Attendance Spirit Week: Next week is National School Attendance Week. To bring attention to and celebrate the importance of school attendance, there will be a spirit week. Please see the attendance spirit week flyer for each day's theme.
Culture Compass (Message from Dean of Culture): As we partner to support the wellness and disposition of Wakelon students, our Dean of Culture, Conswalia Chambers-Banks will share information and resources with parents/guardians. Please read the September Edition of the Wakelon Culture Compass.
Carpool Tags: Please remember to have your carpool tag visible in your car. We must see the car tag number. This helps Principal Nealy speed up the line when the number is easily available.
Open House: Open House will take place on Thursday, September 19, from 5:30-7:00. The purpose of this Fall Open House is for families to learn more about Wakelon and about their child’s classroom. All parents are invited to meet with Principal Nealy in our school’s cafeteria from 6:00-7:00, where you will learn more about our school! You will also hear from the PTA president at that time. At 6:00, families will be released to report to their students' classrooms. This is an opportunity for parents to learn more about what’s happening in class up to this point. The fall book fair will be open during this time as well. Families will have the opportunity to shop during Open House.
No School: Please remember that Friday is a Teacher Work Day. There will be no school for students on Friday, September 20.
