4/27/25: The Cardinal Connection
Good Afternoon Pleasant Plains Elementary Families,
We had an exciting milestone this past week—our very first staff social! It was a wonderful opportunity for our team to come together, connect, and begin building the strong relationships that will help shape the heart of our school. Seeing everyone meet for the first time, share stories, and enjoy each other’s company was a joyful reminder of the special community we're creating at Pleasant Plains.
This week, I’ll be holding brief meet-and-greets with students at Apex Friendship, Baucom, and Scotts Ridge. During these visits, I’ll introduce myself, share some information about Pleasant Plains, and answer a few student questions. I’m really looking forward to meeting our future Cardinals!
If your child is not yet aware that they’ll be attending Pleasant Plains Elementary, please take a moment to let them know ahead of time—I want these visits to be a positive and welcoming experience for everyone.
Transportation Updates
I met with the Apex Friendship transportation team this week and learned that bus transportation eligibility is determined by a student’s home address. These decisions are made at the Assistant Superintendent of Transportation level.
Students who qualify for bus service based on their address will receive a letter from the transportation department on May 13th. To be guaranteed bus service on the first day of school, families must complete registration in the transportation portal by May 28th.
Bus routes will be available on June 18th. For more information, please visit the WCPSS transportation website.
Charter PTA Meeting - Wednesday, May 28th from 6:00-7:30 pm
The Wake PTA will facilitate the charter meeting for our new PTA. Proposed membership dues are $10; please bring cash or a check to join. Once we have members, we will vote on PTA leadership positions and approve the bylaws under the umbrella of the NC PTA. By the end of the meeting, we’ll officially have a PTA!

Track Assignments
You should receive a postcard via U.S. Mail with your student’s track assignment by May 1st. If you do not receive a postcard, or if you are unsatisfied with your child’s track assignment, please contact our data manager, Mrs. Brooks, at albrooks@wcpss.net.
Mrs. Brooks will maintain a waitlist through June 30th. We will review the waitlist weekly, as there may be opportunities to shift tracks as registration continues. After June 30th, track assignments will be finalized for the school year.
We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding throughout this complex process.
Student School Supply Lists
Grade level teams will be collaborating in the month of May. I anticipate having supply lists posted to our school website by June 1st.

Please direct all enrollment questions to your current school. If you have a rising Kindergarten student, please direct questions to the school where you registered. For any questions about transfers or assignments, please contact the WCPSS Office of Student Assignment. Registration: YMCA Before/After School
The Kraft Family YMCA is excited to offer Before and After School programs on-site at Pleasant Plains Elementary school. These programs include a wide range of activities, including arts and crafts, active games, plenty of outside time, character development, and positive role models.
