Mustang Families,

 

This is the last week of the 1st quarter with the term ending on Thursday. Friday is a workday and Martin will be closed for students. Quarter 2 begins on Monday, November 4th. As a reminder, Tuesday, November 5th, is also a workday as it is Election Day and Martin will be closed for students. 

 

As a reminder, students are not to wear costumes to school on Thursday. 

 

All County Band: On Monday, members of the Martin Band auditioned for seats in the WCPSS All County Honor Band with more than 600 students from across the district. Congratulations to Mr. Giambusso and the following students who earned seats:

Fall Play: All families are invited to attend the Martin Fall Play this Tuesday and Wednesday. The doors open at 6:30 and the show starts at 7:00. Tickets are $6.

 

Martin Family Coffee: Mark your calendars for the November Martin Family Coffee which will be on Thursday, November 7th, at 6pm. This will be an in-person event as we are partnering with the WCPSS Family Academy for a Healthy Minds workshop, focusing on managing the challenges of traversing adolescence. This session will be offered in both English and Spanish.

 

Congratulations: The Martin Quiz Bowl Team got off to a great start and competed well last weekend. The A Team took their 7-0 record into the championship round and came up short on the final question to finish in 2nd place in their division. The B Team finished 6-1 in their division while the C team fought hard throughout the day, winning their first match of their Quiz Bowl careers. We are proud of the teams!

 

Water Tower Competition: The Water Tower Competition is open for middle school students and provides students with an opportunity for hands-on engineering.  This competition is hosted by NC ONE WATER. Registration is due by November 5 and more information is available on the attached flyer.

Winter Sports: Winter sports tryouts are right around the corner. All 7th and 8th grade students interested in trying out for boys’ and girls’ basketball should take note of the following: 

  • Winter Tryouts: Boys Basketball- Nov. 18th and 19th from 2:30-4:00; Girls Basketball Tryouts -  Nov. 20th and 21st from 2:30-4:00.

  • The last day to sign up is Nov. 14th and students MUST have a 100% completed Dragonfly account in order to try out.

Yearbook: The yearbook staff is working hard on creating this year's book, but we could use fall pictures (outdoor fall festivals, sporting events, other school activities, etc.)! Mustang Sports This Week:

All games/matches begin at 4pm, unless otherwise noted. Tickets can be purchased in advance at GoFan or at the gate for $6. Please note: we will not accept bills larger than $20 at the gate. Students should have rides on campus no later than 5:30.
