Happy Soggy Super Bowl Sunday Mustang Families! Whether you are pulling for Kansas City or Philadelphia or will just tune I for the commercials or the halftime show or not watch at all, I hope you are staying dry and warm on this chilly and rainy day.
Mr. Martinez: We are excited to welcome Mr. Javier Martinez to the Martin community as our new assistant principal. His first day on The Ranch will be Thursday, February 16th. Mr. Martinez comes to us with a great deal of middle and high school experience as well as magnet experience.
Thank you: Thank you for loving our amazing bus drivers last week. They do an amazing job safely transporting our students to and from school each day and it was wonderful to see their smiles when they received their treats and snacks on Friday. Thank you for making them feel appreciated!
Congratulations: Ms. Townsend and our MathCounts team competed on Saturday in the Chapter Competition, placing 4th in the Team Competition. Victor He finished 2nd in the Countdown Round and 5th overall. We are incredibly proud of our entire team and Coach Townsend!

Martin Family Coffee: Our 2nd February Coffee will be this Friday beginning at 8am. The focus will be 7th and 8th grade registration so our target audience will be 6th and 7th grade families. The meet link for the coffee is: https://meet.google.com/rxf-vfyf-ona. It can also be found on the by navigating to the calendar of the Martin website and clicking on the event.
8th Grade Families: We enjoyed seeing so many families at Friday’s Coffee. The presentation is linked here and is also on our website under Mustang News. Representatives from various high school Academy programs will be on campus during lunch on Wednesday, February 15th, to share with students information about their programs.

Second Step: Students are scheduled to engage in a Second Step lesson this week during Corral Time. The topic and conversation starters for each grade are:
6th Grade: Emotions and Your Brain:
- Summary – Your student will learn how the different parts their brains play a part in managing strong emotions.
- Conversation Starter – Ask your student to teach you about some of the different parts of the brain and how they manage emotions. Look up pictures or videos to learn more.
7th Grade: Unhelpful Thoughts
- Summary – Your student will distinguish between helpful and unhelpful thoughts (those that help you make good decisions vs those that can lead to negative ones).
- Conversation Starter – Tell your student about a helpful thought you recently had and the decision you made because of it. Ask them to share a helpful thought they had as well.
8th Grade: Understanding Stress and Anxiety
- Summary – Your student will examine how they feel, what thoughts they have and how their body responds when they are stressed.
- Conversation Starter – Ask your student what they do or how they feel when they are stressed. These signs can help you notice when they are stressed and when they need help.
