November 13, 2022 Mustang News
Happy Sunday, Mustang Families. I hope you have managed Hurricane Nicole without much difficulty. We are looking forward to a full week of school!
Carpool Reminder: Carpool families are reminded that students are to be picked up and dropped off in the parking lot along the gym only. We continue to have families drop off and pick up along the street, putting students and other motorists at risk and slowing our carpool procedures down. We ask that you set the positive example of following safety procedures for your students.
Report Cards: Report cards will be distributed to students on Monday. Please ask your student for their report card Monday afternoon. Final grades can also be reviewed in HomeBase/PowerSchool. If you would like to schedule a conference, please contact your student’s teachers, grade level counselor or grade level administrator.
ELA NC Check-In: All students will take the ELA NC Check-In on Tuesday. We will alter our schedule for the day to administer the Check-In in a single setting. As a reminder, Check-Ins are designed to give teachers feedback on student progress in the content covered to this point in the school year. Instructional decisions will be made based upon the data from the Check-In.
8th grade Families: Rising 9th grade students interested in attending Broughton High School are invited to Tuesday’s Open House 5:30-7:30. The event will include Broughton introductory sessions at 5:30, 6:00, and 6:30 as well as an IB Diploma Programme session at 7:00. Families can take student- or self-guided tours of the building and meet other Broughton families. There is no pre-registration required for this Open House.
Debate Club: The Debate Club meets Wednesday in Ms. Snider’s room (1310) from 2:15-4:00. Meetings will return to alternating Thursdays in December.
Second Step: All students will participate in a Second Step lesson on Thursday through Corral Time. The lesson topics for each grade level are:
- 6th Grade: Common Types of Bullying
- Your student will discuss different types of bullying and increase their awareness that bullying can look and feel different in each situation.
- Ask your student if they have experienced bullying or negative jokes recently and how it made them feel. Let them know you are there to support them
- 7th Grade: Overcoming Roadblocks, pt. 2
- Your student will identify a goal they want to work on, anticipate roadblocks and develop an If-Then Plan for their own goal.
- Think of a time you achieved a big goal and tell your student about it and some of the smaller goals you needed to finish to achieve it. Ask them to tell you about their goal.
- 8th Grade: My Future Self
- Your student will imagine who they want to be in the future.
- Ask your student what they want their life to look like in the future; what skills or abilities they want to have; what qualities or values they want to develop.
CASS Family Academy: The Counseling and Student Services Department will hold a virtual Family Academy on Wednesday. The topic for the session is “How to talk with your teen” and members from the WCPSS CASS Department will support the session.
World Languages Night: World Languages Night is this Thursday, November 17th from 6-7:30 pm. It is a night that celebrates not only the languages that students at Martin are currently learning, but also the multitude of cultures represented here at Martin. It’s a wonderful event filled with music, games and tasty treats. All Martin families are invited to be part of the fun. Please see the Martin Athletics Website for all details. As a reminder, students must have a 100% complete Dragonfly account by Wednesday, November 16th, to try out. Please contact Mr. Basaldu with questions.
