October 16, 2022 Mustang News

Good evening Mustang families. Welcome to Spirit Week 2022! Our Student Council has been working hard to plan this week and we are all excited to see the creativity of the Martin community. As announced Friday afternoon, there has been a slight change to Thursday, which is now a  RED OUT. We need to fill the halls and Broughton Stadium with red for the football game vs Oberlin. The entire week is as follows:

          Monday:        Matching Monday

Tuesday:       PJ Tuesday (school appropriate of course)

Wednesday:  Crazy Hat/Hair or Hawaiian Wednesday

          Thursday:     RED OUT Thursday

Friday:          Anything but a Backpack Friday

Morning Arrival Change: Students were made aware of a change to morning arrival last week which we are starting on Monday. To provide additional social time to students, we will have students report to the gym or cafeteria (if eating breakfast) when they arrive to campus. We will dismiss students from those locations to 1st period. All school expectations are in place during this time, including cell phones being off and away. We hope that this change can provide some additional social time for students.

Virtual Family Coffee: We will hold our October Coffee on October 28th, virtually, at 8am. The meet code is meet.google.com/ysi-gsck-rxw.

Art Club: Any student missing Art Club this week due to Band and Chorus All State Auditions are asked to check in with Ms. Odum and Ms. Bennett. Students can send a quick message through Remind.

6th Grade Mixer: The Sixth Grade Mixer is October 26th from 2:30-4:00 and is a wonderful opportunity for 6th graders to spend time with each other afterschool with lots of activities and fun! Students are asked to register by Monday, October 24th.

Mustangs at The Fair: If you are going to the State Fair, be sure to check out the Art Exhibits. Three Martin 8th grade students have their work on display at this year’s Fair.

Yearbook: The Yearbook Staff is looking for more 1st day/week of school pictures, summer vacation pictures, Halloween/Haunted House pictures and State Fair pictures for the yearbook. Please email photos to tbricker@wcpss.ber and include student name(s) and grade level.

Reflections Entries: All Reflections Art entries are due on Friday, October 21st. Go to https://sites.google.com/view/mmsreflections2021/home to submit your entry.

All Missing Work Due: The end of the 1st quarter is quickly approaching, and students are asked to submit all missing assignments and assessments by Thursday, October 27th. This will give teachers time to evaluate and include on the final grade. Students should check their PowerSchool accounts for any missing work.

Athletics This Week: All games begin at 4pm unless otherwise noted.

Wednesday   Volleyball and Soccer vs Oberlin

Thursday      Football vs Oberlin (at Broughton High School with kickoff at 5:30)

Reminder that e-tickets for home and away games can be found on the Martin Athletic website under the Martin HQ tab

Carpool Reminders: Families using morning and afternoon carpool are reminded of our procedures. Please drop off and pick up students in the parking lot along the gym only. Do not use Horton Street (either side) as your drop off or pick up location. This creates an unsafe environment for students and motorists and slows down carpool.

From the PTA: The ALL Fun No Fuss Fall Fundraiser officially kicks off on Monday and runs through October 21st. This year’s goal is $32,000 with 100% of the funds supporting students, staff, and programming. The PTA also hopes to fund at least one of the following:

New sound system for the gymnasium

          Mounted projector for the auditorium

          Outdoor learning space

Carpool Crazies will be out each morning to collect your donations. You won’t be able to miss them!

Penny Wars kicks off on Monday with the winning grade level earning a donut party. More details and rules can be found here.

Donating is easy – just click here to donate!

Thank you, Mustangs, and have a wonderful week.
