September 11, 2022 Mustang News

Good evening Mustang families. I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. We were thrilled to see so many families at our Meet the Teacher event on Thursday and hope you enjoyed the night. On behalf of the staff, I would like to thank the PTA for providing dinner for staff prior to Meet the Teacher.

The first two weeks have been a great start to the new year! Students are building relationships with their classmates and teachers and we are seeing a lot of collaboration and learning happening in classes. Students have done a really nice job of keeping their cell phones off and away during the instructional day. Thank you for reinforcing this expectation with your student!

Martin Family Coffee: All families are invited to join us for our first Family Coffee on Friday, September 16th, in the Auditorium at 8am. We will share information about our schedule, details about Corral Time and other exciting programming and events happening this year.

A 6th grade specific Coffee is scheduled for Friday, September 23rd, at 8am in the Media Center.

Corral Time: Corral Time does begin on Tuesday and will occur every Tuesday and Thursday between 1st and 2nd period. The time will be devoted to academic and social/emotional support and enrichment.

National Junior Honor Society: Martin has an active NJHS sponsored by Ms. Bonham West and Ms. Dalessio. Any 7th and 8th grader interested in joining the NJHS this fall are invited to complete this interest form by Friday, September 16th. Students must be logged into WakeID Portal. Current members do not need to complete this form and this is not the application. That will come later. Sixth graders will have an opportunity for application during 2nd semester. For questions, contact Ms. Bonham West, rwest2@wcpss.net.

Fall AIG Testing: Families wishing to nominate their student for AIG testing this fall must do so by Friday, September 16th. Email Rebecca Bonham West, rwest2@wcpss.net, for information about the process.

Fall Pictures: All students will take Fall Pictures on September 22nd. These pictures will be used in our yearbook. Families can preorder picture packages or order once the proofs are available. Order forms will be sent home in the coming days.

Missing Work: To help students stay on track with assignments and assessments and allow teachers the opportunity to evaluate work to include on interim reports, we set timelines for students to submit any missing work prior to the midpoint and end of each quarter. Our first deadline for missing work is Wednesday, September 21st.

Engineering Day: Campbell University is hosting Engineering Day for middle school students on Saturday, October 29th, from 10-2. The QR code to register can be found here.

From the PTA: Have you purchased your Annual PTA Membership yet? Membership in the Martin PTA allows us to support programing and school initiatives impacting all students. Joining is easy and can be done here.

Big Red Passes are now available. Big Red supports arts and athletics and membership allows you to skip the line at home athletic events and performances. You can choose your membership level! Purchase your Big Red Membership here.

Need Spirit Wear? Order your Spirit Wear here and your student will be notified when the gear is available for pick up at the front office.

Thank you Mustangs, and have a wonderful week.
