Monday, May 30th, is Memorial Day and Martin will be closed for students and staff.

As we move towards the end of the school year, we encourage students to check PowerSchool regularly for any missing assignments or assessments that they need to make up. All missing work is due June 3rd, which is just around the corner.

Congratulations: Congratulations to our Dance Department and Ms. Lowder for two outstanding Dance Concerts last week. The students looked fantastic! Congratulations to the entire Performing Arts Department for an amazing Spring Concert Series. What a wonderful showcase of gifts and talents!

Artsplosure’s Spring Arts Festival: Five hundred pieces of art were submitted and judged, 150 were selected, five from Matin! Congratulations to Mason Lizotte, Kate Maness, Maylen Johnson and Adora Fan as well as Ms. Bennett and Ms. Odum.

  • Mason submitted 2 clay pieces: a daffodil teacup and a detailed woodland-themed slab box.
  • Kate submitted a colorful clay slab box with a challenging handle design and high precision.
  • Maylen submitted a yarn painting titled 'Letter in Spring'
  • Adora submitted a yarn painting titled 'Recorder of the Soul Forest'.

Artsplosure continues through 6pm tonight, so you have time to check out their work!

End of Year Celebrations: We will have our first end of year celebration on Friday, May 27th. Students who have earned all As for quarters 1-3 will be invited to attend a small celebration during 2nd period of Friday. There will be a light breakfast and games and activities for students to play.

EOG FAQ: As we move closer to the end of the year, families may have many questions regarding End of Grade testing. Ms. Bonham West has a live FAQ for families to review. She does note that, due to WCPSS restrictions, she is unable to change settings and families will be required to view from a WCPSS (student) account.

EOG/EOC Highlights:

  • All students will take End of Year tests - there is no “opt out” for testing.
  • Students MUST use a school issued Chromebook and charger. Personal laptops cannot be used.
  • Students CANNOT have access to cell phones, smart watches, earpods/buds during the testing block. If your student has a medical condition that requires access to a smartphone, please contact Ms. Bonham West, rwest2@wcpss.net.
  • VA students are required to take EOG/EOC on campus.

Library Books: Students are reminded to return all library books by May 31st. Please start checking under the bed and in closets for those books! Students can see a list of books checked out in their name by checking in Destiny.

Summer Food Program: Linked is a list of sites and locations  that support our community during the summer by offering meals and resources. Please contact our social worker, Teresa Barnes, tfbarnes@wcpss.net, if you have questions or are in need of support.
