May 8, 2022 Mustang News

On behalf of the entire Martin staff, I would like to thank our families for the wonderful week of appreciation during Teacher Appreciation Week. We enjoyed the snacks and meals each day and truly felt the love and support of the Martin community! Thank you for your continued support.

Family Coffee: We will host a Family Coffee on Friday, May 13th at 8am. The topic will be EOG/EOC Readiness and we will meet virtually. All families are encouraged to participate, including Virtual Academy Families, as we will discuss logistics, schedules and how to support your student. The PTA will hold a brief General Meeting at the end of the Coffee. The meet code for the Coffee is: https://meet.google.com/fyo-gcta-soc

EOG FAQ: As we move closer to the end of the year, families may have many questions regarding End of Grade testing. Ms. Bonham West has a live FAQ for families to review. She does note that, due to WCPSS restrictions, she is unable to change settings and families will be required to view from a WCPSS (student) account. We will talk through many of these questions at our Coffee on Friday.

Spring Concerts: The Martin Band Department will have their Spring Concert on Thursday. The concert begins at 7:00 in the Martin Auditorium. We will round out our Spring Concert Series with the Dance Department on May 19th and 20th.

STAR Math: All students will take the End of Year STAR Math Benchmark on Tuesday. This information will be used by teachers to guide end of year instructional planning and celebrate growth over the school year. We encourage all students to take their time and do their best. For questions, please contact Stephen May at smay2@wcpss.net.

Carpool Reminder: We have noticed families not following carpool procedures during both morning and afternoon carpool again. This past week, we almost had an accident in our carpool line due to a person attempting a U-turn after dropping their student off on Horton Street. The safety of our students is our top priority. Our carpool expectations are:

  • Drop off and pick up only in the school parking lot along the building.
  • Use right hand turns into and out of the parking lot from Horton Street.
  • Never ask your student to cross Horton Street to avoid the carpool line.

While we recognize Martin has a long carpool, we do allow families to drop off as early as 6:50am. Please do not plan to drop your student off at 7:20/7:25 as they will likely be late for class.

Athletics This Week: This week’s athletic events are:

  • Monday Softball vs North Garner
  • Wednesday Soccer vs North Garner
  • Thursday Softball vs Ligon (this game is a double header)

Summer Food Program: Linked is a list of sites and locations  that support our community during the summer by offering meals and resources. Please contact our social worker, Teresa Barnes, tfbarnes@wcpss.net, if you have questions or are in need of support.

Attention Rising 9th Graders: Enloe High School is offering Summer Learning to students who will attend Enloe, Broughton, Garner, Millbrook or Southeast Raleigh High Schools next year. Requests will be accepted through May 20th. For more information, visit the Enloe High website

End of Year Celebrations: To close out the 2021-22 school year, we have several celebrations planned for our students. On May 27th, we will recognize students who maintained all As for quarters 1-3 with a light breakfast and games. The 8th grade dance is on June 3rd from 6:30-8:30. On June 9th, the 6th and 7th grades will have grade-level activities to culminate the year. On the last day of school, June 10th, the 8th grade will have a grade level celebration and awards day. More information will be shared with students in the coming weeks.

From the PTA:

8th Grade Dance: The PTA and 8th Grade Team will host a Hollywood-themed dance on Friday, June 3rd, from 6:30-8:30pm. This dance is for Martin students only and will be held in the cafeteria. We are asking for donations of $10 to help offset the cost of the dance. You can make donations here.

Spring Fling: The 8th Grade Spring Fling will be on June 10th during school hours. This event is planned to be outdoors, weather permitting. More information will come as we get closer to the end of the year.

6th and 7th Grade End of Year Celebrations:  The 6th and 7th grades will have grade level celebrations on Thursday, June 9th, during the school day. More information will come from the grade levels in the coming days.

PTA Board Members: If you would like to serve with the Martin PTA next year, our Nominating Committee would love to hear from you! We have positions with varying levels of responsibility. PLease email PTA Vice President Angel Bolton at vicepresident@martinPTA.com if you would like to hear more. Stay tuned for more details.

Have a wonderful Sunday evening!
