From the PTA: This will be a busy and FUN week at Martin. We have our big spring fundraiser event, Mustang Madness, on Friday night, plus our Virtual Silent Auction and lunchtime raffles going on all week. Read on for more details.

Mustang Madness

This annual spring fundraiser is a jam-packed, high-energy night, and we encourage all students, families, community members, and Martin alumni to attend. Join us on Friday, March 25th, 5:30-7:30pm in the Martin Gym. Tickets are $5 each at the door and FREE for Big Red Pass holders. Bring cash for concessions, raffle tickets, and other fun stuff. Here's a sneak peek into what you can expect:

  • Three Point Shoot-Out ($1 to participate)
  • Performances by MMS Chorus, Jazz Band, Orchestra, Cheerleaders, and Dance Teams
  • Basketball Game with Staff vs. MMS Basketball Teams
  • Staff vs. Students Mustang Rodeo Ball
  • Grand Prize Raffle (raffle tickets $1 each)
  • Mechanical Bull Rides ($1 per ride)
  • Kona Ice, Pizza, Chick-fil-a, and other concessions

Raffle Tickets

We will draw for small prizes every day during lunch starting Monday, 3/21 and grand prizes during the Mustang Madness Event on Friday night. Tickets are $1 each and will be entered into both the lunchtime and the grand prize raffles. Purchase raffle tickets online here, or with cash in the Martin cafeteria every day during lunch and at the Mustang Madness event.


Volunteers Needed

We'll need help with the raffle every day this week during lunch and with various things Friday night during Mustang Madness. Please visit this link to sign up. 


Attention 6th Grade Families: All in person 6th grade students received an “OPT OUT’ form for the Behavior Intervention Monitoring assessment System-2 (BIMAS-2) screening tool two weeks ago. Your student’s 2nd period teacher will complete a questionnaire regarding their observations of your student during a 1 week timeframe. If you DO NOT want your student to be part of this screening, please return the OPT OUT to school by Monday. For more information, contact Ms. Leech at


4th Quarter Materials: Students enrolled in Virtual Academy can pick up materials for 4th quarter beginning on Monday, March 28th, between 7:30am and 3:00pm. Families are reminded to return EL novels from quarters 1 through 3.

Single Subject Acceleration:  The application window for SSA is open from March 21 through March 25, 2022. Please contact Ms. Bonham West,, if you have any questions.


Congratulations: Congratulations to Mr.  Riggs and members of the Martin Band and Jazz Band programs. Students participated in a rigorous audition process to be selected for the NC Honors All State Band or as part of the best middle school Jazz Band in the state. Honors All State Band will perform on May 1st at UNC and Jazz Band will perform on April 9th at NCSU.

FFA Congratulations: Members of Martin’s FFA team competed in several events over the past week, qualifying for additional competitions. Congratulations to Ms. Neal and the following students: 

Caitlin Roth competed in the Wake Federation FFA Creed Public Speaking contest, placing 5th. This qualified her to compete at the East Central Regional Rally on April 1st.

The Parliamentary Procedure team also qualified for the East Central Regional Rally by competing in an advanced Parliamentary Procedure Leadership Development Event. Team members include Stella McLester, Riley Olson, Abigail Roth, Catherine Ingram, Addy Mulvey-Rose, and Ava McLaurin.

The FFA Envirothon team won first place at the regional Envirothon contest. Team members were Addy Mulvey-Rose, Riley Olson, Cora Driscoll, Nisa Parikh, Sarah Kalva, and Mugdha Ghangrekar. They will advance to the state Envirothon contest held at the end of April.


Athletics: Events for the week are:

  • Monday: Softball @ Dillard Drive (Away)
  • Wednesday: Track vs North Garner (home); Softball vs Carnage (home)

As a reminder, all athletic events begin at 4pm.


Second Step: All students will participate in a Second Step lesson on Wednesday through 2nd, 3rd and 6th period elective classes. As a reminder and because our electives are of mixed grade levels, the lessons experienced this week will be a little different than in weeks delivered by core teachers. Students will participate in team building and learning from and about others.
