March 13, 2022 Mustang News

Did you Spring Forward? If not, please make sure you adjust the times on your alarm clocks and arrive at Martin on time tomorrow morning! As a reminder, Friday is a Teacher Workday and school is closed to all students. Staff will be engaged in professional learning on Friday.

Missing Assignments: All missing assignments and assessments are due by March 17th. This will give teachers the opportunity to evaluate those assignments and assessments and include them on 3rd quarter grades. The 3rd quarter does end March 25th.

Single Subject Acceleration:  We will host a Virtual Single Subject Acceleration information meeting on March 17th at 8am. The meet link is https://meet.google.com/hms-bjbw-dvk. All families interested in hearing more about SSA for middle school courses are invited to attend. The application window for SSA runs from March 21 through March 25, 2022.

Course Registration: All students will register for classes on Tuesday, March 15th. We will run a 1-hour delay schedule where students will meet in the 1st period classes and complete the online registration process. It is helpful if students come with an idea of the classes they intend to sign up for mapped out. Our CASS team will be on hand to support, as will the rest of our staff.

Current Virtual Academy Student Course Registration: Students currently enrolled in VA will (if you have not already) receive an email from your grade level counselor with all the resources and information needed to register for courses. You will also receive information on how to get help with the process. Please be on the lookout for an email from Ms. Rowell, Ms. Leech or Mr. Strader.

Attention 6th Grade Families: All 6th grade students received an “OPT OUT’ form for the Behavior Intervention Monitoring assessment System-2 (BIMAS-2) screening tool on Monday. Your student’s 2nd period teacher will complete a questionnaire regarding their observations of your student during a 1 week timeframe. If you DO NOT want your student to be part of this screening, please return the OPT OUT to school by March 21st. For more information, contact Ms. Leech at kleech@wcpss.net.

Attention 8th Grader Families : Do you have a rising 8th grader who is interested in learning more about STEM careers? If so check out this FREE Summer Camp--Exploring STEM Careers open to rising 8th graders who will go on to attend one of these high schools:

  • Athens Dr
  • Apex Friendship
  • Enloe
  • Southeast Raleigh

Don't wait to apply--the application period ends March 28th and it's only open to 12 camper slots for each feeder middle school. See flier for more information.

Athletics: Spring sports kick off this week! Events for the week are:

  • Monday: Softball vs Oberlin (home)
  • Tuesday: Soccer vs Oberlin (home)

As a reminder, all athletic events begin at 4pm.

1st Period Attendance: As a reminder, on-time attendance is expected for 1st period. We start our carpool at 6:50 to ensure families have enough time to move through the carpool line, if they arrive early enough. It does take approximately 7 minutes from the time a car turns onto Horton Street until they reach the drop off location. We ask that families leave home in enough time to get through carpool before 7:30, allowing students to be in 1st period by 7:30. Your student will likely be late if you are not arriving at Horton Street by 7:20.

Mustang Madness - The Martin Tradition Continues: Mustang Madness, an annual PTA community and fundraising event, will take place March 21st through 25th. All week long we will be holding fun raffles during lunch for students and an amazing silent auction for parents. Be sure to mark your calendars for Friday, March 25th, when the week culminates in Madness! There will be performances, student-staff competitions, raffles and much, much more.

Have a wonderful Sunday evening!
