Week of February 13, 2023

Hello Carver Families!

I hope you have had a wonderful weekend. We are excited to have our Carver Cubs back tomorrow!

Please take a moment to read these important school/district updates:

Celebrating Black History Month!

This month is Black History Month — an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of African Americans and a time to recognize their central role in U.S. history.

Although African American history is included throughout our year-long curriculum at all levels, teachers and students make concerted efforts throughout February to further explore significant African American leaders and associated events with various educational and enrichment activities. We encourage all of you to find ways to celebrate and acknowledge the many contributions of African Americans—those in our community, our history, and our classrooms—not just in February but all year long.

Social Emotional Learning at Carver Daily/Second Step:

This week students will focus on kindness concepts, including the importance of showing kindness towards classmates and ourselves. Students will have the opportunity to write about or draw how they can show kindness on a heart for display in the front lobby. Ask your student about the importance of showing kindness.

This Week:

It is  Bus Driver Appreciation Week! We will be showing our bus drivers how much we appreciate them each day. Please don’t hesitate to join in on the celebration. I know our Carver Bus Drivers would appreciate knowing our parents recognize their hard work and care about them as well. This week we celebrate:

  • Ms. Harvey - Red Bus

  • Ms. Kima - Green Bus

  • Ms. Beth - Orange Bus

  • Ms. Phyllis - Yellow Bus

  • Ms. Judy - Blue Bus

 Upcoming:

From Carver PTA:

  • Mark your calendars for our upcoming Candy Man fundraiser (2/20 - 3/7), more details are coming soon.

Reminders:

  • We need your cooperation and support to have a safe and orderly arrival and dismissal. I am asking that all parents utilizing carpool, adhere to the established routines and procedures. So that unnecessary delays do not occur during afternoon dismissal, you may be asked to park in a designated area to have your student walked to your vehicle by a staff member.

  • Parents/Visitors must go to the main office when arriving on campus. Only parents/visitors wearing a nametag should enter areas where instruction is happening. A nametag is given in the main office after checking in with the receptionist. Please be mindful that we will do our best to provide uninterrupted instruction. Parents/Visitors should not enter classrooms during the instructional day unless this has been previously arranged. We appreciate your support.

Let’s make it a “Breakthrough” year! If you have questions or need support, please do not hesitate to contact me or Mrs. Crouse, Assistant Principal by calling the school or sending an email: wcmerritt@wcpss.net, acrouse@wcpss.net

Thank you,

Wenitra Merritt, Proud CES Principal
